Andrew: It sounds like you have a job that you've earned. You worked hard to get were you are. I'm not sure what "In the automotive industry" is, but that doesn't matter. If your happy, I'm happy for you. If you don't need a union thats great. I'm sure as hell not going to try to sell you on the idea. I worked nite shift to pay my wifes tuition. WVU, the same school you attended. So I can relate with you on some levels. As for my prefision: Sometimes I work 8 hour shifts. More times than not I work 10 hour shifts. Lots of overtime. No, I've never had 2 hours of mandatory breaks. Actually, my union fallows federal guid lines in that respect. Just like you." Try working for an event production company assembling training facilites"? Say What? I build skyscrapers! As for the guy that wouldn't help you. That is BS. As for you running to the boss like a little kid. That is also BS. Getting the crew kicked off the job because your feelings were hurt. More BS! Becouse one man hurt your tinder feelings, 9 years ago, you hate all unions. Thats just sad. This thred was started for union members to discuss there prefison. Not defend it. If you wan't to go around poking bears with sticks, your going to wake one up!

Don't worry, as long as I'm around the country has hope. I'm 140 lbs, don't have cable, and I spend 100% of my paycheck every two weeks. :D:thumbup:

    AMEN. :D

That being said, I know here on 'The Island' good luck getting better wages, training, benefits, mentoring and a pension outside of the Union.

And BTW to the bashers, if it wasn't for Union trade rates what do you think the non-Union sector would be making?! WE set and push the standards for YOU too, so show some respect! :smack:

A bankruptcy court decision/request does not equal a union or it's members caving. This is not uncommon, look up the 2008 Boeing Strike, the feds got involved in that one.

I have alot of respect for you paying for your wife. Good for you and Go Mountaineers!

However, there are alot of reason I dont like unions (feel free to PM is you'd like to have a debate) that is just where it started. And I agree about it being a union thread, but it took on a new life long before I chimed it. I wasnt saying building facilities is harder than skyscrapers, in fact, i would never build skyscrapers because I hate heights. but I would like to know how many hours you work a week?

As far as the threat of waking a bear? Typical union thugs trying to flex their muscle.

Andrew: I'll start by answering your question. I try to work a 40 hour week. Because of time constraints overtime is inevitable. It's my responsibility to get the job done with as little overtime as posable. This is an ongoing issue. I worked 26 straight hours once. Worked christmas a couple years ago. Honestly, I didn't do it for my union or my company. I did it for my family. I think we can all relate to that. I have respect for any man who stands up for his beliefs. Just do it at the right time and the right place. You were singled out, and for that I apologize. One day I'll buy you a quality union beer.

Well, looks like the hostess union and the employees lost out... got a little too greedy. The artical this morning said the employees got fired (not laid off)... Merry Christmas. Being that they're fired their not able to collect unemployment now... correct?

Doing a little reasearch, it seems the company was bleeding money, and the payroll was a small anmount, compared to the other outstanding debts. Not sure we can blame the Unions at this point. granted, one cant help but wonder if the jobs would have, in fact, be kept had an agreement be made.

Depends on the state and circumstances. In my state, you don't get it if you quit. You can if you are fired, but the employer can still fight that.

Why would the employer fight that ? Do they have to pay part of the unemployment benefits AFTER they no longer employ you ?

but to your question, if the employer doesn't want to pay the unemployment he could fight it, sometimes he might try to get away with an illegal firing and try to fight EDD
