After 30 years I can cash out. Just need to get my required hours. Which won't be a problem. I currently have enough hours to take my 3rd upgrade class. Just got home from a 14hr shift.

Wish I was the same. I'm about 50% bit building a new one so I should be able to shave off 15-20% more and be at about 70%. Not bad for 27 years old and 250k started with nothing

People who bash unions have the common mis conception of it for sure. My favourite job was 5 and a half years in a non union sheetmetal shop where I had to work very hard but I also learned everything I know about not just work, but life, money, investing and other things. In the end though when I started buying houses and investing I felt the need for a more secure job. I left and it sucked but with the huge union I joined I never have to worry about anything and just do my time everyday and go home to my family which really is all I care about.

 

No - I am just tired of supporting people with my tax dollars who don't need support.

You want to be union - great. Now pay your own way to retiring at age 55. Don't bleed us common folk dry so you can sit your ass on a beach while the rest of us work another 20 years and have not 1/4 of what you guys get.

 

IBEW pensions and annuities are paid for by IBEW members and union contractors 100%. No tax dollars used.

Do you understand that not all unions are public employees?
Nothing of what I do for work has anything to do with "common folk" tax money. Why can't you invest and save your own money and be able to retire when you're ready? My pension and annuity are paid by the hours I work. If the union didn't make an agreement to have the money go directly into those funds, I would still be putting money away for my retirement like a responsible human being.

Those countries the average family is so poor that the children need to help contribute or they will go hungry. You would prefer them to go without food?
