    Hey guys!

I dont think this has been posted before, couldn't find anything, so I apologize if its a duplicate. So I have a 2015 DCSB V6 4X4. I have the factory toyota keyless system along with a Viper remote start only that I installed 4 years ago, and it's been flawless. The Viper only connects to the main starting wires it needs, plus locks and side lights, thats it, no alarm, nothing fancy. So I noticed a week ago the truck will not respond to the Toyota or Viper remotes from a reasonable distance, (viper can go up to 1500ft), until I get about 10ft from the truck, then the remotes work fine. Now, if I walk away from the truck and lock the doors I can do it from either remote just fine from a reasonable distance, (like 40ft). Now if I wait like 30 secs, I cant use either remote at like 40ft, till I get right up to the truck again.

    1) I haven't changed anything in the truck
    2) truck battery is 6 months old, bought new from toyota
    3) Thought the remotes were dying, pulled out the spare toyota and viper remotes, and nothing changed, but all 4 would be dying? Cant be, cause they work fine when I leave the vehicle.

So now I think its the truck. But what could it be that 2 different systems arent working correctly??

Cheapest, easiest thing is to replace the batteries in one of the remotes and try again as a first step. Might keep you out of the rabbit hole.

Where are you trying this? Like, physically what location?

I’ve had issues similar to this in the past with other vehicles, both with and without a Viper coincidentally, and I think it had to do with radio tower interference. I parked at work and one place in the city that had cell phone towers pretty close and I think they interfered with the signals. Drove me nuts because I thought it was a day to day issue.

Worth making a note of what locations the problem happens and trying to rule it out.

Thanks guys for the responses. I have figured it out. So I have a solar panel on the truck to help tender the battery, and the solar panel was in 100% sunlight here in TX and according to the volt meter, the panel is producing too much power to the battery in the sunlight here, after days, & days, & days just sitting, (I daily a motorcycle). I got the solar panel after my battery would die after a few weeks of sitting about 6 months ago, and the battery dying issue stopped. So I unplugged the solar panel (having a hunch), and what do you know, the remotes work just fine from 40+ft at any time. Again thanks guys, should have gave it more time instead of posting. Have a good day guys!!

Don’t delete, keep it for the next guy. Good info.

sounds like it was electrical interference from the solar panel.
