Has anyone tried to install a universal center console in the Tacoma? I find the flip up one in my truck to be virtually useless. Having two separate levels does not do me any good. I’m looking for some thing that locks and has one level instead. Something like this.

I guess it comes down to if you can find one you like .

I put one in a 4Runner for a friend like anything else one gets what you pay for .

This one was a joke the lock might keep out a 4 year old in mittens .

Install was just a matter of making some brackets to use the stock location mounting

Well, the POS stock one has no lock at all. I wouldn’t be storing gold bars in it. I just want something more usable than stock.

Depends on how"universal" the product actually is.

I'm sure you could get it to mount up, but I can almost guarantee the lines won't match the shifter console.

Might as well bolt an ammo can between the seats. That would at least give off the "I'm badass" vibe, lol

Mine has a lock, but it's attached to the driver/passenger doors. I honestly don't think an internal lock is going to be all that more secure. If someone's breaking it to the truck, they're going to get in and pretty well F up the interior getting into the console. I'd rather just replace the broken window.

I installed a universal one from Kmart. I too was looking around to install on my 1998 taco. Have also replace my bench seat to a bucket seat from 4 runner.

Don’t care about the lock. I just want a better storage cubby. I may look at buying another center console and cutting out the cubby/armrest and installing an ammo can in it. Then I can pad the top and be done with it.

I just decided to make one 57F4D1EF-6E14-4E5B-AD20-DE44CE26BB73.jpgit was my first attempt at upholstery so don’t be too hard on me, but the box is good and I plan on redoing the upholstery one day when I’m sick of it.

Thanks, it needs some work, in hindsight I didnt design it exactly how I want because I was just shooting from the hip. And would make some modifications. However if you have a sewing machine and can do some wood working it was surprisingly less difficult than I thought it would be.

it’s just not fancy with a latch or locks or anything. That’s another thing I will spend more time on when I decide to redo it

It was always intended as my prototype, it just turned out good enough to use while I figure what else I want

I still need trail lights to operate from the switch locations I put in, but I’m thinking it wasn’t the best placement and I’ll probably change that up because I could imagine always hitting them when I’m putting my coffee in the cup holder and accidentally blinding people on the road
