    Just as the title describes.

I purchased a 10/100k/0 deductible from Jerry Johnson a couple months ago for $1360, still think it’s a great price and he is the MAN to see about one of these… great experience. However a couple weeks later I cancelled it for a full refund due to the financial timing not being ideal for me. Life happens. I’ve decided to forego the extended warranty for now and see how my truck does… after all that’s why I purchased a Toyota, for reliability.

Stats, 2023 TRD Sport 6MT with 15,000 miles so 1.5 years and 21,000 miles to go before the factory warranty expires.

Curious to know how you long time 3rd gen owners have fared over the years and miles regarding issues popping up outside the factory warranty. If you have an extended warranty did you use it at all or not? Any issues that popped up, how much did it cost out of pocket for those of you without the extended warranty?
Just trying to gauge what I may be up against in the future, I plan on driving this truck to the ground. FWIW I am aware of the two biggies with the 3rd gen’s… the timing cover leak and the crossover coolant pipe. What do those cost to fix? thanks!

I bought extended warranty/extended service plan, when I bought my brand new 2023 Toyota TRD OffRoad last year from my Toyota dealer. It 5 years/60,000 miles, 10 years/120,000 miles in both cases. Most likely I will hit 5 years first, (factory warranty ends) then extended warranty begins. i dnk know about timing cover leak, coolant crossover pipe. Better to do engine oil, and filter change at 3,000 to 5,000 miles, and change out engine coolant when it is time. Only issue with my Tacoma, was that rear axle side nuts recall, my Toyota dealer to care of it.:D

Extended warranties are a waste of money for me. Very few issues with most vehicles after original warranty expires. Most new and current vehicles are well made. There are exceptions of course but then just get rid of it. Regular routine normal maintenance is key from my decades of experience.

I purchased my 7year 125k mile warranty from Jerry in February 2023 for my 2021 sport 4x4 double cab. I'm at 50k miles and have had zero issues with my truck. Maybe it was a waste of money? Oh well, I Iike the idea of not paying for a large repair

No problems just regular maintenance on my 2016 Tacoma with 58K miles in 8.5 years. My family has been driving exclusively Toyota vehicles (couple Camrys, Corolla, RAV4, Scion XD & XB and now my Tacoma) for 30 year and I have never bought an extended warranty (and never needed it). I do all maintenance and repairs in my garage. My wife is pretty hard on vehicles. Her 95 Camry needed the most repairs (new CV shafts, motor mounts, wheel bearing and radiator). I did all the work in my garage.

I also have a separate bank account called my Rainy Day Emergency Vehicle Repair Fund. When I buy a new vehicle, I deposit the amount I would have spent on an extended warranty into the account (and don’t touch it unless a repair I can’t do is needed). If I were to have a complete engine failure and can not fix it in my garage, I have money to take care of the repair. I call it Self Warranty.

I hope these thoughts help you decide what is best for you. Enjoy your Tacoma.

I had 8yr 75K mile extended warranty on my 2016. got it for about $850, from another dealer via e=mail, before Jerry. With 2 months left on it and never used it prior it covered the Coolant pipe behind the motor.

My coworker’s work truck, the factory warranty expired, apparently, extended warranty never purchased. The ABS computer failed, and AC not working. I don’t what happening with AC, but the ABS computer cost my work $$$$ at dealer. It is Chevy gasoline truck, I don’t how extended warranty is purchased with business, or same way with personal use.;)

I bought the 100k mi extended warranty on my 94 toyota shortcab 4x4 base model (new price was $12,995 and TMCC financed it after highschool working part time in a grocery store, no co-signers). The warranty rebuilt the transmission 4k mi before it expired.

I got the extended warranty from Jerry Johnson for my 23 ORP mostly to cover the electronics and pink pipe one day. In the Jerry Johnson thread the other Toyota seller questions if the warranty is valid if Jerry sells it to somebody in California (me).

Curious if anybody has used the Jerry extended warranty in California. I need to dig into this sometime.

Clearly it’s a profit center for them, so more times than not, the warranty isn’t used, or not past their cost.
I know it’s not financially smart, but I bought one at a discounted rate. I’d rather pay a chunk up front and know I’m covered for years. Of course that also considering my situation at the time- most of my money came from commission, so my income could be sporadic.

2017 Tacoma trd or dcsb 4x4 auto, 46k miles, purchased new December 2016. Opted not to purchase extended warranty.

    1. Hvac blower motor stripped out and was replaced under warranty with updated part
    2. battery leaked and was replaced under warranty
    3. 3rd brake light leak, bought oem tsb parts, fixed myself, Toyota sent reimbursement check

Regular maintenance mostly by myself using oem fluids and filters. Just bought new tires, about due for brake inspection/brakes...

It's a Toyota, you'll be fine. Save the money for something else imo.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Mine came with a lifetime power train warranty from the dealer and I'm doing all the maintenance (didn't even use the free oil changes). I haven't had any work done under Toyota or the dealer power train one.

My problem with any warranty is the fine print and how difficult the warranty company is on you to cover or deny. Then it's a question of who does the job (cheapest for them) and what parts are used (non-oem would be cheaper). So you may end up with non-toyota mechanics using non-oem parts as part of the warranty stipulation. If something breaks on mine, I'll either fix it myself or find an Indy shop to do it for half the price of a dealer with parts I buy

If I were buying a Tacoma new again, I would get the warranty. All the 'common' issues with these trucks that I know about now...I'd want the peace of mind that I don't have a multi-thousand dollar bill hitting me when my warranty is gone. I think I had a 6yr/75k warranty. My rear main was leaking at 74k miles, and I had it fixed under that, which alone paid for the extended warranty I purchased.

Agreed. I never buy any extended warranties, as a matter of principle. These are just pure profit centers for the companies. You're being taken advantage of.

I rarely if ever buy extended warranties on most things, but I did with my 2023 truck. It is my first AT and V6. The $1200 cost of the policy wouldn't do much for repairs if it ever needs anything past the warranty, IMO. I'm good on the power train for 10 years/100K miles.
