Took ownership of a 2021 OR with 37k back in early October, live in the northeast, previous owner was in New England.

I started the Fluid Film process today and while taking off the second skid plate, one bolt that secures the skid plate was the wrong bolt and broke while removal. I noticed what seemed like excessive rust for a 3-4 year old. The area in question is only above the skid plate. Other areas seem to have surface rust at bolts and welds only. Brushed those up and they seems fine. Nothing that isn’t on par for the area it lived.

I’m guessing the previous owner had the skid plate removed for a time or maybe this seems normal to yall. I guess my questions are…
Does this seem abnormal? And what are we calling the two arms with bushings that seem the heaviest rusted? I may need them replaced down the road.
    Thanks

    That is all fine
The diff and arms are cast steel, they will never rust away

I’d wire wheel and repaint the jack point tho

then treat everything with fluid film every year

Thanks! That’s exactly what I’m doing and just wasn’t sure about those arms.
Now I just have the BS task of extracting and replacing the skid bolt…

Spray it with rust bust before removing and let it sit a while

Pretty close to it, about 1/16 of an inch sunken in.

spray WD40, let it sit hour or so. Sandpaper then coat it with WD40 and paint, on top of that put fluid film oil coating.

Also, why is there oil on drain bolt? is it leaking or you just changed oil

Welding a nut on will be far less frustrating than trying to use extractors, if you have access to one. Then again, you may be able to just center punch what's left and start drilling it with a normal bit, and it may pop up inside the crossmember.
