My 2005 automatic Tacoma is acting up all of a sudden. From a complete stop, when I accelerate the truck, then let go of the gas pedal and then step on it quickly again the truck doesn't want to accelerate until after when I pump it a few times and then it will take off. It feels like the truck is unresponsive when I step on the gas pedal. There is also no error codes or any check engine light on to tell me anything. I was hoping for your expertise before bringing it into the dealership.

my only experience with this would be my dad's '96 ford powerstroke, his was the throttle sensor on the pedal. it would just cut out & go to an idle for no reason... if the tacos don't use a throttle cable, maybe start there.

When you press the pedal and it doesn't want to accelerate do the RPMs go up ?

I don't recall the last time I changed my fuel filter, but last night my truck was running low on gas with the E light on. Filled her up with a new gas and its still doing the same thing.

Disconnect the neg. battery cable for about 15 mins., then reconnect, and see if the symptoms are still there.

When the truck is unresponsive, I am flooring my gas pedal and the truck is accelerating very slowing and I just noticed that the RPM's would stay just above 1500

Do what I suggested, and post up what happens, if anything.

    No you don't!

X2 on the disconnect the battery. It sounds like the ECU has you in safe mode for some reason.

How many miles on the truck ? Have you noticed anything weird about your transmission lately, like rough shifting or a delay in shifting ? When my Nissan's transmission was failing sometimes when you accelerated and it changed out to 4th gear it would get stuck in that gear for a while and would not downshift.

You may have a code in the "pending" status. I believe the OBD is setup as a two error trip. Meaning it has to see the error happen twice in a certain time/cycle frame. It could be intermittent enough to not actaully trip the light.

Normally, Yes. BUT....Its best to start with disconnecting the battery, and resetting to see if its just a "glitch", or if something has happened and "slipped" past the ECU. Start with the small easy stuff first.

X2 on resetting the ECU. Works wonders a lot of the time. the more computerized the engine, the more magical errors a disconnected battery will fix...
