So I might just be an idiot, but here is the situation.

My tacoma has had ice cold AC for the last year since i bought it. A couple days ago I got in and started driving with the air already set to on before I started my truck. Noticed the air wasn't blowing at all. Then after about 5 min it unexpectedly turned on and started blowing cold air.

The next couple days followed and I've had a myriad of problems. Sometimes the truck starts and cold air comes out great about 2/3 of the time, just like usual. Sometimes the fan blows air, but even with the cold setting on, its just regular air (neutral temp) which has happened twice. Then rarely since, air wont blow at all (3 times).

I am hoping the issue is just the switch behind the dials and i need to replace them, but not sure. Hoping it is nothing relating to a clutch or condensor issue.

It's possible just a low charge, but you are right, clutches and condensors are culprits with tacoma.

Inspect the condensor, are there rock holes in it?

Watch and listen to the clutch while its idling, is it engaging? How long etc.

You need a 134a machine to properly diag it, but it wont hurt to look at things.

Sounds like a it could be a couple of different issues as the Fan Resistor would stop the fan from blowing at all due to a burned or erratic connection, this would cause the fan to possibly not blow any air.

The blowing of warm air could be either the 1.) The clutch going out on the compressor. 2.) A low R134a charge, neither of these should stop the fan from blowing air regardless.
