I got home from work yesterday and hit the lock button on my remote and nothing happened. So, I hit unlock and it unlocked the doors. Tried lock again, nothing. Tried the panic button and it worked. So, I figure the lock button on my remote is dead and go inside and grab the spare keys to try that remote. Same exact thing, everything works except the lock button. The doors will all lock/unlock, as normal, with the interior buttons, so I am thinking the actuators are all ok. I have read that this sort of stuff happens, but everything I found seemed to lead to the entire remote being disabled. Not just one function of it.

Seems really peculiar to me. Any thoughts or ideas of where to start diagnosing this?

Well I have no thoughts on diagnostics , I would like to see if someone does. Mine has done this on and off for a year or so 2011 TRD Sport . I have done the usual round of battery replacements both remotes, reprogrammed remotes , checked fuses etc . It just happened again today would not lock but would unlock, now I have played around with this if you go start the truck and shut it off the remote lock button works again. I have not seen a recall or anything for the lock systems.

I believe, if system thinks that one door is open it will not lock doors.
Some cars have distinctive beep signal to warn you about it but I dotn think Tacoma does.

My 2011 goes solid tone if a door is open , not sure what it does if it is partially closed may check that tomorrow.

Yeah, it turned out to be that. The passenger door had the seat blet hung in it, just enough to keep it from latching securely, but didn't trigger the over head door ajar light and no wind noise either. LOL.

I forgot to come back to this , what I have discovered it seems to happen when I have something plugged into my 12v always hot plugs either the acc plug or the usb plug I put it to charge my phone when the truck is off.
