I don't get it either. If you are that embarrassed that you could only afford an SR but wanted a TRD Pro then maybe you should think about that and your life choices. Accept it how it is or work harder and don't act like a pooser.

This BS goes on in other car communities too. In BMW those people try things like putting M3 badges on a 323.

I say if you don't want to feel bad for having a low end trim take all the badging off.... Make people guess what it is. That's at least not as dishonest.

I remove all badges from all vehicles when possible. Only left my Tacoma side door ones since they came black.

Personally I prefer down-badging. On my old four-banger I got a R.A.T bedside decal in the style of the TRD one (Regular Ass Tacoma).

The best thing GM ever did was rebadge a Corolla and sell them. Why did GM do this? They wanted to sell the idea that GM, could build a reliable vehicle.

I didn't know this was a thing, but I used to see this older guy with a Gen 1 Tacoma who rebadged it to a Chevrolet. Just the badging and nothing else. Chevrolet is super popular with the cultural group he is part of so maybe that's it. I saw this thing dozens of times when I had parking lot duty and he was picking up his grandson. Always curious about the reason but, again, it's his truck and it's whatever floats his boat. You see some weird stuff in a school parking lot.

That brings back a fun memory. My cousin, who didn’t give a crap about cars managed to somehow finagle a free Fox body 4 cylinder from his boss or a co-worker. He got a pair of 5.0 badges, but them apart and reversed them so they read 0.5.

I've seen people put 5.0 badges on a V6 Mustang. Seems odd to up-badge, but I guess it's considered a mod just like anything else.
