Parents are going to be in town now so seeing if they want to run Red Cone and then check out some colors on Guanella Pass

It would be a mid morning-afternoon run. About 11am or so since they have some houses to check out in the morning

Going up SOB would be more fun/challenging IMO.

Down shouldn't be any issue, aside from some skid and diff strikes. Have fun!

David! Sorry I didn't get back to you. Bad couple weekends this weekend I'm packing and next weekend I'm moving! But after that I'm ready haha. Have fun and be safe if you're heading up there!

I'm heading to Moab 17th-20th with some mountainbike buddies, but I have a f'd up knee and won't be riding so want to do some exploring in the truck, and I'm looking to you all for advice for some first time trails out there. Or if anyone will be out there and wants to let me tag along for a day .

Me: I've never been to Moab for offroading, always bikes. I will be solo, am a confident driver, still learning the trucks abilities but am continuously impressed, and no problem turning around if needed. Also no problem dragging a bumper here or there.
Truck: '15 ACLB, 4x4, open/open, 2.5" lift, 31" KO2's, sliders, and IFS skid. No winch, but I do carry recovery straps and a snatch block.

I'll be doing research in the meantime, but wanted to reach out and see if there are some "must do" trails for a first timer out there.

You won't be alone...Rock Therapy is the same weekend so there should be plenty of TW folks out there.

I think most would agree that Top Of The World is must do trail. Fins and Things is also a popular but not too difficult trail with some really aggressive approach and departure angles. Super easy would be taking potash road into the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands up and out via Schaefer trail and back to Moab via pucker pass. That's an awesome loop if you just want to see gorgeous views without breaking your shit.

Jinx...you owe me a coke. Also...if we want to get technical the trail is Hell's Revenge...it's the last obstacle that's called "Hell's Gate" that I think most first timers look at say NOPE!

Ahhh I've been hearing about RT here and there but wasn't paying attention, didn't know I was going to Moab until today...I'll make sure to bring an extra towel, there's gonna be alot to drool over!

Thanks for the advice on those trails, all of which I've heard of so I'll make sure to research them specifically.

I'll have to catch up on the thread too, looks like figuring out camp might be fun.

There camp wasent that hard to find. The map give ya an idea then look for the fires. There is usually 2-3 different ones.
FYI watch out for the leaf blower guy at the large camp fire....

Hmm... Moab you say ... Now that I have a camper, I may join and mix some mountain biking with driving the easier trails since I don't prefer body damage.

Anyone ever attended the Overland Expo West? There is one coming up in Oct 2020. Is it good or should I save my money and buy more stuff for the trk?

the overland expo events are cool to see for at least one day. you can do the multi-day options as well which are also fun to camp and hang out with some of the vendors and travelers.

some of the overland events are for show. the proper overland expo west brings some interesting travelers from around the world, yes around the world traveling here for the expo. it's cool to see their rigs that have traveled across different continents and hear of their travels. it's good to see some of the products coming out as well.

Expo West is the big event and usually will have some new products unveiled. Haven't been to Expo East and heard mixed reviews. Curious how the Expo Mountain West will turn out, i'll end up heading up for a day at least...not really going to camp in Loveland.

Last time we went to Expo West we made a big trip out of it down to Flagstaff.. traveled through the staircase/powell and down to sedona camping at a different spot every night. stopped by the show for a day and moved on. I've also done the full weekend down at Expo West and did the camping experience while covering for TCT Magazine.

Expo West i know has a bunch of demonstrations and a "off-road" course that you can sign up for and drive rigs through some obstacles "learning" techniques.

Not sure the cost of attending the show would compare to "buying more stuff" since the show fees aren't that expensive ($15-40).

It's been 10 years since I last went to Overland Expo, maybe I'll go again with it coming to Colorado.

I know posting a non-solidified trip isn't the best for this thread, but... is anyone interested a long weekend Moab trip this coming weekend? My plans for this week/weekend took a literal 180 and now I technically have a bunch of time off. Thinking of doing an impromptu Moab trip sometime between 10/25-10/30.
