i'd suggest there because traffic coming east on I70 in the afternoons BLOWS! coming home on 285 during the summer is always the best option..especially with the twin tunnels construction

Twin cone looks like fun! It looks like there are a few easy bypasses on some of the tougher sections. Could my buddies with stock rigs make it up those bypasses with 4x4?

Last year the trail was graded, so that stock vehicles could make it all the way to the top. The hardest parts are now the optional sections.

Stock trucks should take a slower pace when going through the last couple hundred yards, both going up and down, to avoid hitting the skid plate.

    Well my trip is planned:
    Saturday 6/15
I'll be meeting up with a few guys at a church off of 470 and Quebec around 8:45 am. We'll push out from there to hit Slaughterhouse Gulch (ETA 9:45). We'll run Slaughterhouse Gultch and then try to swing over to Twin Cone. Hope to be done with the run close to 1.

This may be a bit early for some of you, but some may need the extra time to take off work, fix your truck, make arangements, etc. if they want to go.

    Alpine Loop - August 2-4

I'm heading down to do the Alpine Loop with a couple guys that aren't on the forums and do some exploring in that area to check out some old mines, ghost towns, historical stuff, and whatever else looks interesting. For those that aren't aware, the apline loop connects Lake City, Silverton, Telluride, and Ouray via off-road trails that make a loop. There are also many spurs in the area to go explore as well. The views and scenery in that area are some of the best in the state.

Monte (blackdawg) has a big 3-part trip planned for down there as well; however, that leg of the trip was going to be during the week and we didn't have time to take off for that. So we're doing it over a weekend instead.

We'll probably leave the Denver area on Thursday afternoon-ish to head down there. Exact plans on where to start have not been set. There are some really easy places to find and meet up down there if there are some people that can't caravan down with us and will be arriving later that night. Also, if you want to head down a couple days early to do some solo stuff or if you can't make it for the first day, not a problem, there are plenty of places to join in along the way since we will be going through each of those towns along the route. We will be camping along the route each night as well. We'll probably camp not too far out of town each night so that it's easy to have dinner in town or visit a brewery in town if anyone is interested in that.

Some of the highlighted trails to do in the area are:
    Black Bear Pass
    Imogene Pass
    Picayne Gulch (optional)
    Poughkeepsie Gulch (optional)
    Mineral Creek
    Red Mountain Pass (optional)
    Cinnamon Pass
    Engineer Pass
    Yankee Boy Basin (optional)

If you take the easiest lines through the tougher obstacles on the non-optional trails, the difficulty of the loop is a 4 on a 10 scale. Therefore, it's my understanding that a stock 4x4 can make it through if you're careful. Don't quote me on that though. If that is you, you'll want to make sure you do your research before hand to know what you're getting into. There's plenty to read on all of these trails on TrailDamage.com and I'm sure there's even youtube videos as well for some of them. You can even PM me if you have specific questions and I'll do my best to answer.

If you're interested in going, just let me know.
