Yup, I'm aware it's very overrated as far as difficulty. It has one or two switchbacks that are as tight as one of the 28ish on Morrison. But I'd like to do it before it gets shut down for good.

We would've done it the same day as the jeep video a few years ago that ran up the inside edge of a straight section and rolled down a level. It wasn't on our route either so we passed.

I’m all in for scenic. I should be able to join you for this based on how long other trails are supposed to take.

Anyone planning to explore this week near the Denver/Boulder area? I'm off all week, so pending any plans the wife made but didn't tell me about yet I'm pretty open.

Just something to consider. 285 is currently shut down and could be this weekend. If so, i70 on Sunday will blow exceptionally hard.

Hopefully 285 opens up by then, but the fire is continuing to grow so I'd keep it in mind.

Yup, and hwy 9 between Fairplay and Hartzel is now shut down as well so the only roundabout way is to the springs from BV... Or through Indian mountain back to 285. But the fire is heading south so i wouldn't be surprised if highway 24 gets closed due to smoke which means another main corridor closed, and no way directly east from bv.

Yes, or up to 70 and east. But not a direct route by any means and will add hours to a trip if trying to get back to Denver and you didn't know about possible closures.

Couldn't find a thread for it,

For the trails that you all typically do out in the Denver area, should I be looking at aluminum or steel skid plates? Just put the TRD Baja suspension kit on, with the heavier duty coils the steel weight shouldn't be a problem.

I know nothing about "Off-roading". Coming from the flat lands of the east coast

I don't want to be the new guy on a trip who got the wrong stuff and breaks down or holds everyone back.

The thing is, I don't really know what all I will be using it for, other than daily driver from Westminster to Greeley, and where ever I get a job out there.

Group events from this thread are probably the only other thing I'll do with it, that I know of now. If you guys frequent near big rocks, I guess I'll go with the 1/4" steel.

I would wait and go on a couple trail runs out here and find out what your wheeling style is before buying skids if you’re unsure. There are plenty of people here wheeling all over the state who don’t have 1/4” steel skids. Just take it easy and figure out what kinds of trails and exploring you like to do before pulling the trigger on your skids.

Rocks are why they are called the Rocky Mountain, that being said other than weight the difference between Steel and Aluminum is Steel will bend before it will "break" whereas Aluminum will "break" before it bends...

Really you are on the right track just getting protection under there, especially if it's also your DD.
