never towed anything....Anyone 45+ remember repacking the bearings on the ol big 3 pickups whenever you serviced the front brakes way back when ??
Sooo is that still standard practice on these trucks or is it a use and trash affair ?? Weeks back I lifted the front wheels to check for play or noise in any direction & none found.
Can they be opened and repacked with grease or leave it be till they wear out ? Whats protocol ?

Nope, sealed bearings. No noise? No play? No problem.

Adjusting shoes is still a very good practice. Especially during brake replacement. Check the shoes, adjust for drag. They do not auto adjust.

I'm going to have to do this on my 2007 4x4 soon and so find this of interest. I'm an old guy and remember the old bearing repack days well. My question is if the brakes are not self adjusting how do you adjust them?

    You can’t adjust the front.

You can adjust the rear - https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/rear-brakes-auto-adjust.261605/page-2#post-19144493

    I don’t count clicks. I adjust them until I hear/feel a slight drag.
Then get in the truck, pump the brakes a few times, and then recheck the adjustment.
I do all this with the wheel on.

Some guys like to do it with the wheel off, because they can get a better feel.
I’ve never done it that way, mostly because that’s the way I was taught and it’s worked so far?
