So now that the kiddos are asleep after a long day of taking the oldest to Sesame Street live, I looked at the mirror a little closer. The one I got is the GNTX-313. Looks bad ass as fuck looking at it close up. Super happy with the purchase. Can't wait to put it on.

 

Was a bit bored on my lunch break, since I bring lunch and eat at work, so decided to go out to the truck and do a bit of prep work for the mirror install tomorrow.

Popped up the overhead console and removed the visor as well. Found the plug "hiding" up there but mine didn't have a cover on it. All good.

 

Installed my mirror today! Question about it all. Does the temp and/or compass need to be calibrated somehow or does it do it by itself? And how do you program the Homelink? Can it be done if your garage door motor doesn't have a "program" button? Yeah, old house with old technology problems.

Here are some pics. Hardest part was removing the trim pcs and then running the wires through the grommet. Even taking the grill off to make the installation of the sensor was easy.

I put the sensor maybe a bit lower than what the instructions said. Hopefully that doesn't make a difference. Also ran the wire a bit differently but don't have pics of that, sorry. Was too into it and forgot to take more pics.

 

The compass may need calibration. The instructions shohld have been included. IIRC, it consists of driving slowly in a circle several times, but can't remember if there was anything special that had to be done to tbe mirror first.

Taake your current garage remote and hold it closely to the mirror. Simultaneously push the remote button and the desired button to be programed on the mirror ( park safely so you don't get the truck hit by the door opening or closing.) Hold both buttons until the LED on the mirror changes frequency of flash or goes solid.

it works great. It needed no calibration they do this before shipping by using your zip code.

Thanks for the tip about programming the homelink. And no instructions about calibrating the compass... all good though. I drove for a bit to home chepo and back today but that did nothing to it. Not really worried about that, yet... I have the nav unit and that says the direction I'm going on, but it would definitely be nice to have the mirror say the same.

 

Did a bunch of driving around yesterday, because of going to my nephew's baptism, that the compass calibrated itself. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tried to program the homelink to the garage door opener, but didn't work. Tried the one that you press your garage door opener one and the button on the mirror. Have to check and see if my old ass garage door motor has a "learn" button and try that. Going to take the cover off when I get home from work, hopefully, and checking it.

 

Tried to program my Homelink to my garage door opener but no luck. Tried the remote to the mirror, learn button, nothing. Maybe I have to mess with it on a day that I have morw time to do it and try each thing more than just a few times.

 

Running the wire through the grommet was my biggest struggle too!

 

Out of curiosity, where did you mount your temp sensor? Did you mount it at about the placement the instructions had, higher, or lower?

 

I put mine where the instructions suggested.
I think you should be fine with the placement of yours as it's still in the same general area.

Any reason you put yours in a different location?
Also how did you run the wire differently?

 

No reason really for the different spot. Well, sort of. Felt like it would be better a bit lower because of the other temp sensor that was already in the area for something else from the factory. The wire I ran a bit differently. I didn't run it along the hood release cable. I ran and tucked it around some other wires and areas. A bit hard to explain but I can try and snap pics tomorrow in the daylight.

Also tried again to pair my Homelink to my garage door opener and still no luck. Did a bunch of Google searches, tried different things and still no dice. Can't figure out what doing or not doing right so it works. Maybe it's my stupid garage door motor.

 

I'll take a look when I get home and see if I still have the pairing instructions around from when I bought my mirror. Have you tried emailing Bob? He would know the exact sequence.

Thanks a lot! I haven't emailed him yet because I wanted to try everything I knew of and could find before I bugged him. Then I could say I tried before "giving up". Kinda feel bad bugging the guy. I'm sure he has a ton of stuff going on. But I'll take you up on your "offer" first and if you don't find them, then I'll bug him.
