Just putting this out there, again, as many have already said. BOB IS THE MAN, period. Dude is awesome to deal with. Love it!!!! Reached out to him about the instructions, and then I asked him a few questions and he emailed me back right away every time. LOVE IT!!

Going to try the Homelink thing again and again. He gave me a few different ideas to try. Hopefully it'll work!

What brand opener are you working with?

 

It's a Genie H6000A I think... at least that's what it says on the motor.

 

It is an intellicode opener. This video should show where the learn button is. You will need to do the mirror learn process first. Once the mirror has been programmed with the remote code. Hit the learn button and within 30 seconds press the mirror button. It may take up to three times. Once it has been coded the door should close/open.

Yup... tried that a bunch of times as well and no dice. Got the instructions from Bob so going to try a few things as well as the same things I already did just for the heck of it and just in case.

 

Do you know if your garage door opener uses rolling codes? Mine does so the programming was a little different compared to one that does not. I'm sure you will get it figured out though. Just a thought but have you been trying to program every time to the same button (far left for example)? Might be worth a shot trying a different one if so.

 

Not sure about the rolling code thing to be honest. Tried to read on that, and what it is, but it confused the heck out of me.

I've been trying to use the same button every time but not a bad idea to try a different one. Thanks for that suggestion!

 

I give up trying to program my Homelink. Tried everything multiple times, different things and still nothing.

 

How old is your garage opener? Homelink sells a repeater for such scenario.

Don't give up...it's either defective unit you got or you got a setup issue. Main reason to get one of these mirrors is the homelink...at least for me it is.

 

Not sure how old the garage door opener is. The house is old, I know that. Bought it in 2010 and the garage door opener was already installed. I think the programming part of linking my existing garage door opener to the mirror works. The part that doesn't seem to be working is the learn from the motor to the mirror part. Didn't think I needed a repeater. Thought that was only for old garage door openers.

 

I had homelink on my BRZ (new car) so I never got it working either...I didn't try so hard since I was gonna sell it. I got a homelink mirror for my taco, but my opener died so it got replaced with a new unit...I hope it works for me, but since you are having these issues...I would contact homelink and see if they can steer you to the right product....I know reading the manual it said if all else fails...look at the repeater. If your opener is an off brand...perhaps the repeater will help.

Another suggestion is to get a buddy that trust you and see if your mirror can program his/her opener and see if it works...then at least you can eliminate whether it's a defective unit in which case I'm sure the OP can send you a replacement or it's just compatibility issues with your opener.

 

Might look into the repeater, depending how much they are.

 

Finally got it to work! The trick was being outside of the garage I guess. But I tried it before and didn't work so not sure how or why it worked now. Whatever, it worked, that's all I care about!

 

What do you mean being outside? You had the mirror outside of the truck to program it? I'm curious as I will need to do it later when I install my mirror and program it. I think you need to have one button on the opener itself and one on the mirror, so it might be a two person job.

 

Sorry, outside meaning the truck out of the garage and facing the garage door. But I swear I had tried it before and it still didn't work. Did it by myself although two people would make it easier when it comes time to press the learn button on the garage door motor, that way you don't have to haul ass back to the truck to press the button on the mirror the necessary number of times.

Installed my mirror today. This one only has the dimming, compass and temp gauge.

It all went real well until the test phase at the end.

I have Dimming (I think, at least the light comes on showing its on but its light out) and I have compass ( its calibrating) but I got no temperature showing. Just a "OC" showing where that should be.

Same error message shows if I disconnect the wires from the temp probe (which I did to see).

Install seemed to go well. No problems and no difficultys. Appears maybe it may be the wire going out to the probe or the probe itself. Its like its not even there from my diagnostic test.

Didn't have any problems at all installing it and the two things off the main harness seem to be working. Any ideas?

Im sure Bob will answer back and we will figure it out. But Im sort of at a stand still now. I left the probe wires disconnect for now. Because now I got to reattach those tomorrow and proceed. But I guess wait on Bob to chime in. Thought maybe someone else may have run into this. So figured I would ask. Nothing better to do in the mean time

 

That's super weird... I didn't have that issue but can't think of what it may be. Mine worked right away once I plugged it all in. Compass calibrated, temp sensor worked, and the Homlink did as well (just took me a bit to finally get it to program to my garage door).

If you disconnected the probe and you still get that message seems to me like it's may be the probe itself. But I'm sure Bob will know and give you the correct answer/info. He's super helpful so I'm sure he'll get back to you ASAP.

 

Thats kind of what I was thinking too. Might be the probe or perhaps there may be a break in the wire of the harness itself? Something is not making contact in that run to the probe I think. Thanks for the input. Wait on Bob I guess. Need to get a couple more wire connectors anyway now that I cut them to test that theory so no a big deal.

 

Ok Bob had me run some tests. We working on it. Im going to post the process and results here just so anyone else running into this can benefit from it if it ever happens again.

Phil,
Make sure the 7 pin connector on the back of the mirror is completely plugged in. If it's not fully seated, the temperature wires may not make proper contact with the terminals in the mirror.
Just out of curiosity...did we forget to include a temperature sensor? I know it sounds silly, but I'm human and do make mistakes now & again, so if I did not include a temperature sensor, let me know and I'll get one in the mail to you.
If I did send you one, here's one more thing to try to be sure the wiring is good. Remove the sensor, take a paperclip or short piece of wire, and short out the temperature sensor connector. Turn on your truck's ignition and look at the mirror display. OC should change to SC (meaning Short Circuit). If so, and if the connector on the back of the mirror is fully seated, then you may have a defective sensor. In that case, we'll send another one out to you.

(Bob was told yes there was a probe included)

Ok Bob, results:

Took mirror completely off. Inspected all the pins in the Mirror plug and all look intact. None bent over. Replugged it in and it snapped in fine.
Reconnected wires to temp probe. Still got "OC"
Went to the Temp probe and removed connector then made a jumper. Still got "OC"
Took the long wiring harness that goes to and from the temp probe out and moved it to near the short harness coming from the Mirror so I could reach both ends and using a multi meter I checked for continuity. One side has good Ohm resistance so good continuity and other side has none. Aha! I says!
So....
Then i removed the long harness from the through the firewall plug and cut it back a good foot or so that I felt was well beyond the area that was inserted though the firewall and still only one side has continuity. So one side appears to be broken somewhere in the remaining wire. Hard to say where. My first guess was maybe where it came through the firewall something got pinched but I cut all that area out I am pretty certain. I believe I eliminated that theory and so the flaw in it must be further back.

One more thing to try if you don't mind. Under the dash where the two wires come down from the mirror, connect the two temperature sensor wires together & see if the display changes to SC. If so, then that confirms there's a break somewhere, but it's probably going to be difficult to find, so in that case I can send you a new temperature sensor harness. I'm thinking the sensor is OK, so you can reuse that. But anyhow, see if you can get the mirror to display SC by temporarily connecting the two temp sensor wires together under the dash & then we'll go from there.

Thanks for all of your troubleshooting help! I can reasonably assume that there is either a break in the wire somewhere or a bad connection where the wire meets the terminal. I'll send you a new temp sensor harness & zip ties; I won't need the defective one back, so you can just toss it out. I'll get it packed up tonight & it'll go out with tomorrow's shipments.

Update on Tuesday 5/10. Received new harness and everything works as it should now. Conclusion... a bad temp sensor harness. All is well. Good customer service.

A note though: The Post office delayed delivery an extra day so it could have been rectified a day earlier than it did but someone on the USPS deliver staff is a liar and never tried to deliver it on Monday like they claimed. They claimed to have tried to deliver it at 2:44 and I was at home from 1:00 to 4:00 that day. They also then claimed to have left a notice. They didn't... because they never tried to deliver it. They also claimed there was no safe place to leave the package. Yet... it fit in the mail box today! Lying sack of... well... I got it.

 

Bobs already shipped me out a replacement harness. Something weird was wrong with that one. Bad gap or something in the wire or bad plug. Ill cut it up one day and see if I can find out where it was bad just for sheets and giggles.
