Yeah... I've seen higher estimates now.

My point was never that it isn't a big deal. My point is that, while it's a huge deal to the people on the coast whose lives and livelihoods will be hurt by the spill, the loss of this much oil per day is absolutely nothing to the world's market. I stand by the statement that we won't see changes in the price of gas solely due to the loss of 5,000 or 10,000 of 20,000 barrels per day in the gulf.

Update- wildlife is suffering so bad officials say it might be better to go ahead and kill them. When birds get oil on them, the oil sticks and absorbs heat. Now with temps up to around 100 degrees, the oil prevents the birds from cooling and is literally baking them

 

Gas Prices - the world cannot handle an increase a barrel over $85 right now. Economies are collasping all around the world.
Gas shot up to $150 a barrel, what happened next one may ask?
Gas dipped drastically and then suddenly, like over night, banks started to collaspe, automakers crying poor, financial institutions corruption. all of a sudden? The financial institutions and government knew what was about to happen. gass going up was the last horrah for the big oil and investors.

the fix in russia was a large explosive device, aka small yield nuclear device. It essentially collaspes the well.

I'm not saying a small nuke isn't the answer.... but if we do that, we should be ready for tourism to take a hit for a VERY long time. If the beaches are cleaned up, people will return to the coast. If a nuclear bomb is detonated in the Gulf, I bet there are a lot of people who will decide to vacation elsewhere to avoid the possibility of contamination.

Whether there is any risk of radiation or not (and I'm SURE there wouldn't be, or they wouldn't do it), I bet there will be some who just don't want to take the chance.

you make a good point about the radiation and vacationing... but id much rather see a loss in vacationing to those select areas rather than sit here and watch all this oil pour out in to my vacationing area, killing wildlife and killing peoples jobs. might be a little bit of problem for a while but thats better than whats happening right now.
