I pray (though I'm not religious) that Americans don't vote for any more Creationist ideologues like G.W. Bush, who tried to cripple environmental regulations for the sake of Manifest Destiny and industry profits. Ironic that Bush's followers are now trying to blame the spill on the only political party that's shown active respect for nature in recent years.

Bush clung to the idea that extractive industries can wisely self-regulate, which has been proven wrong time and again. There are areas of life where only the government can effectively keep greed in check. Suddenly, the wingers want more government control when Obama's in charge of the oil cleanup! Interesting double-standard.

Bush deliberately weakened the EPA and the MMS, which was supposed to regulate offshore drilling. It was mainly bad luck that the spill happened on Obama's watch. I am not a die-hard Obama supporter, but I think the far Right are a bunch of punks.

I'd like to see just one person on the far Right admit that they don't give a rat's you-know-what about preserving nature, unless there are economic upsides for people. Too many of them have to be told to tread lightly (on everything). An example is the off-roaders using the Rubicon Trail, who are forcing lake closures by crapping on non-porous granite. I own and use a 4WD but I'm tired of the general off-road mindset in this country.

    -----

P.S. Also, see what overfishing has done to marine life, regardless of oil spills. Programs like "Deadliest Catch" show the consequences of severe quotas that are needed to keep species viable because of human overpopulation. Even the durable tuna is in trouble now.

You can second guess the response to the spill, but please don't try to claim that Republicans are suddenly big champions of nature, when they've been pissing on it in many different ways for so long.

That this incident happened on Obama's watch is just a fluke. G.W. Bush, and Reagan before him, set things in motion where environmental regulations were neutered in too many areas.

A-holes like Limbaugh had the gall to blame the BP spill on environmentalists, of all people! The lies told by the far Right are unbelievable. It seems that's all they're good for any more (making stuff up to make themselves look Holy). They sure don't want to conserve anything unless they're forced to.

I'd keep you outright hatred to yourself. You must feel attacked in many ways in your life. May the God that you don't believe in bless you.
