So they said that the guys who installed my clutch 3 years ago installed it backwards. How tf is that even possible for it to last this long if its in backwards. It also could have been the dealership as they took apart my truck in january but I really don't foresee them with their senior and other mechanics making that mistake so I'm not sure if it's even true from this trans shop that it was ever installed backwards. But idk so what do yall think?

The pressure plate can not be installed backwards. The clutch disc might be able to be though.

That is what they're saying was installed backwards, but I'm a bit skeptical since it's been working for 3 years solid. The disc that is.

Back in my young and foolish youth I managed to install a clutch disc backwards .

It made so much noise I knew there had to be something wrong.

I need to look at my old clutch see if it is possible that it would work with the disc backwards

I thought the friction pads on a clutch disc were only on one side? How would it even function backwards, let alone for 3 years? I'm no expert but that sounds fishy to me

Ahhh yes I remember that thread. I don't know if I replied but I remember I was typing one out and it involved something to the effect of don't ever go to that shop again, they sound like scammers or at the very least, a bunch of morons that will mess up your truck and happily take your money for it. Time to find a different shop.

I've always had good luck with mom 'n pop, family owned mechanics. They know the value of honest, quality work and a good reputation. Franchised companies (not always) seem more likely to hire people that just don't take their jobs seriously, and/or are more concerned with rushing a job to get to the next $$$ one.

    Backwards, I'm doubtful, but 'maybe'.

Working well for 3 years? Not a chance.

    Find a quality independent mechanic.

Crap I took it to this transmission shop instead of firestone and these guys got me a new clutch but they were saying it was backwards. Problem is that I found out they know the firestone guys and are good friends with them oh and get this. They tried to tell me this new clutch they put on had a lifetime warranty...lol so I call the clutch maker, which is luke, and they say its only a year. Lifetime warranty my a$$. I paid about 750 for all this work and new clutch done too and I even told them that if it wasn't a lifetime warrenty I wanted a Eixty or whatever theyre called installed. Right now I have the old clutch and I'm going to take it into the dealership and ask if it's possible that it could have even been in backwards. What do yall think?

I'll be blunt here. Not rude hopefully, just blunt.

If you have the clutch in hand and can't tell how it's worn over the last 3 years, you really should find an independent mechanic, as I suggested before.

All a dealership is going to do is charge you 2x the independent mechanic. A clutch is a clutch. There's nothing magical about a Toyota street vehicle.

Yeah that's what I'm gonna do tomorrow. Unfortunately this other place installed my new clutch, the trans shop, but I'm gonna get this clutch evaluated at another shop and see if it really was ever on backwards which I don't think it was.

Actually you can put it in backwards and it happened on my truck and the clutch only held up for 7k miles.....I had to sue the shop that did the work because they would not own up to it. But a small claims court summons changed there minds in 2 seconds and it's really FUN to actually serve someone court orders to appear within 2 weeks or lose the case by default for not answer a court filed complaint. Oh daikin-exidy, luk and rhino clutches are worse than oem but very similar in build. They are NOT RATED FOR SUPERCHARGERS EITHER.

It is sad when the people who don`t have the know how or place and time get taken advantage of.

It is real hard to find a good shop even the mom and Pop shops can be just as bad as the chains at times.

I wish I would have seen all this before I went to any of these crooks. I thought luke wasnt that great when I googled the reviews but they had given me a good warranty. I'm just fed up with both these places. This other one was telling me how I would stall my truck with this new clutch but I didn't once. They are such idiots. And they are telling me that they don't warranty their labour because they think that anyone can burn a clutch in 2 minutes was their words. I suppose you could but you'd burn a few other things too. Yeah I don't see how my truck would have ran three years with this stuff backwards. Im going to my other place today and posting the clutch. thanks guys

After reading this thread, first of all; sorry for the crookedness you've dealt with. It's sad business' like this exist.

Second: I'd highly recommend a reputable independent mechanic for you.
