Update: received truck after told “Toyotas inventory system hacked”

Yesterday I got a call from the dealer saying my Tacoma was in. Today they texted me to let me know that “Toyotas inventory system was hacked”. And that because it was never changed to “G” and shipped to them as “F” they can’t release it to me.

does this sound like bullshit?

 

Gotta give em props for coming up with a new and exciting excuse.

 

100% BS. They sold to truck to someone else or something happened.

 

You need to call them and let them know you have some whiteout and a pen and you are on your way to fix that clerical issue. But, you want to inspect the truck first. Guarantee there is a new set of lies as to why you can't come down to the dealership. "There's a bomb threat currently", I am sure. Your truck is gone man, resold at a higher price.

 

Tell them you want to come see it and test drive it. My guess is there is no truck.

 

That’s a weird way of saying we intentionally sold your truck to someone else.

 

Unfortunately, I think the only one getting the "F" here is you. It's either a) gone - sold to someone else for more $$, or b) got damaged in transit or offloading and they want to fix it before you see it and not tell you.

To give credit where credit is due, auto dealerships come up with some imaginative BS. I went into a Ram dealer years back with a pre-approval from my credit union. They had the sales manager come and tell me that they couldn't accept payment from my credit union because they were based out of state, but they'd gladly take care of the financing for me. Yea, I'm sure you would

It won’t break my heart if they did sell it. I really didn’t need it. But I’m usually pretty good at detecting bullshit. And this seems like one of those cases.

I’d send an email to Toyota corporate, copy the dealer and several car news agancy saying you were told by the dealer the Toyota inventory system was hacked and all deliveries are in danger of being missed.

 

It's still $500 you don't want them keeping. I'd text back and say you can either deliver the truck or give me my deposit back, I'm not playing your game and letting you keep the truck on the lot to see if you can get more $$ for it.
