Toyota projected #s for 2016 tacoma sales. Reading comprehension isn't really your thing is it?

You said owners, not projected sales. I read your post perfectly.

Current owners is not even close to the same thing as projected sales.

I should start a company, project sales to be 500 million, and then claim that 500 million people own my product. Genius idea buddy!

Seriously what are you sipping? Send some my way!

    This is too easy....

As many as 200K Tacomas will be produced and sold. Tacoma World is an extremely small sample size to pull from and the fact already three members here have had transmissions replaced and dozens more are finding low transmission fluid is foreboding.

    This.

My service advisor kept giving me updates about the other issues I brought my truck in for, but not so much with the transmission. When I finally got an update, I was told they couldn't duplicate the issues (no surprise to me) and was told that the servicing checked good through techstream. I told him no, it has to be checked through the overflow plug and that was my main reason I brought it in to them was because it seems nobody wants to check the level properly.

They finally checked it through the overflow plug and sure enough, was about a quart low.

Replicating the issue is key. When I first brought it in, tech couldn't replicate issue. He ran engine codes etc and didn't find anything. That is their standard procedure if the problem isn't replicated.

I drove with him and replicated the issue twice. They then kept it over night to do the full test. He then did the full fluid check, found it half a qrt low, topped it off, and retest drove it. Because he saw exactly how I was able to repeat the issue, he knew what to look for.

He was able to once again repeat it so he filed a tas case with Toyota, hooked it up to the stream, and once again repeated the process while the computer was recording. Toyota got the data, analyzed it, and wanted the actual transmission to see what was up....so they gave me a new one. The key is replicating the issue.

According to my work order, they later replicated one of the issues and they opened up a TAS case. This is the exact reason I wanted to take my truck in rather than checking the fluid level myself. Hopefully there will be more volume of this and a TSB or recall will be put out to have the transmission fluid level checked for all '16's.

However, there are dealerships out there that will check your transmission fluid level without much question. Another member posted about a dealership near me so I gave them a call and they were going to take my truck in to check the fluid level. They had no issues doing the job and didn't ask how my transmission was operating. After being frustrated with the dealership A that had my truck, I picked it up and setup an appointment with dealership B. Dealership A calls me the next day after I picked up my truck and told me my transmission was low on fluid so I took it back to them and cancelled my appt with dealership B.

Had I known about dealership B prior, it would've saved me a bit of a headache. Then again, not sure if that would've helped with the motions for a TSB or recall in the long run.

Got my truck back today, they had to for 30 damn hours. And of course they said it was "normal" because they drove another Taco on the lot. No mention of fluid levels.

This was at Toyota of Santa Barbara, which has a good reputation. Anyone know of a different dealer close by that is aware of this issue? Tonight driving home it took a good 3 or 4 seconds of lag before it slammed into gear as I was rolling out of my parking spot.

Not sure if the self check protocol is in my knowledge base as I don't have a scan tool.

    Thoughts?

Why not drive with the tech and show him the issue yourself? Would solve your problem.

Anyone know what kind of percentage Toyota needs to release a TSB ? or how we can force them to release a tsb ?
Possibly 2 % of the trucks sold ?
We are pushing you guys to call corporate when you feel the symptoms . It creates a track record

There was only 1 case on Tacoma World that the fluid was low enough to cause an accident and the OP has not replied back

Maybe we should involve / make aware the http://www.nhtsa.gov/ ?

I just took mine in yesterday with the same issues. 2016 V6 DC 4X4 w/ Tow PCKG. Dealership claimed they couldn't reproduce the issue, so I told them to keep it overnight. They still claimed there were no problems and fluid levels are correct; this is typical operation and all new cars with synthetic fluids do this and I just needed to wait longer to let the pumps pick everything up. I called them on their BS. Also, the work order did not correctly state the R-D delay as I explained. I left unhappy and they were aware of this.

I contacted corporate and explained everything including my dissatisfaction with the dealership. I now have a case started and they will be contacting the dealership. My Toyota case manager stated that he is aware of these types of issues and it is not his first time hearing these symptoms on this vehicle. It sounds like they are beginning to acknowledge that there is a problem. We will see how this progresses and I will update as the case develops.

Why not drive with the tech and repeat the problem yourself for them? When I brought mine in the tech couldn't repeat the issue. They didn't know what to look for. I drove with him and repeated it twice. Pretty cut and dry at that point.

I don't think I've seen a single instance where a tech clearly repeated a user's complaint and didn't follow up with a proper check.

I couldn't due to my work schedule, but the next time it goes in after corporate followup that is what I plan on doing.

    Good!

I get it, people are frustrated with their dealership but when they cannot repeat the problem then their hands are pretty much tied. Hell the tech I drove with and showed the issue to said he just got done sitting in a car for 30min with a woman who said her car clock was going to fast. Had to sit there with both cell phones out to show her she's crazy. People bring their cars in with crazy claims all day, so when you walk in talking about "I read about this on the internet", of course they will be skeptical at first. That's why a test drive to repeat the issue is critical. Again, I'm yet to see an instance of a clearly repeated issue on a test drive be ignored by the Dealership.

hmmm some dealers are sticklers and dont want to seem to do the work. I dropped mine off the night before so it would cool. Went in that morning for my appointment. I told them i want the fluid checked and DO NOT drive it till its checked because i dont want to sit there for 4hrs while it cools. they took it right in and did my check and then drove it. tech said he noticed the lag from R-D when he took it in the garage.
