Wow thats a complete fail by Toyota. I can imagine problems with tow package vs no tow package causing low ATF, but getting front/rear diff under filled is completely pathetic. I guess 2016 Tacoma is in its own quality margin.

So, when I have the dealer check my transmission fluid level tomorrow, I should specify that I do not want the tech utilizing a scan tool but to physically check the level?
I got lost when I was reading about a jumper and such to check the damn fluid level. What happened to the good ole dipstick?

Took possession of my new Tacoma yesterday. In my negotiations I had them guarantee that they will check the ATF before that truck moves off the lot and that I wanted to be there to watch it get done. I ended up with a super awesome tech who walked me through the whole procedure and didn't mind going through all the known issues with me. Long story short, it ended up being half a quart low. The U-Bolts also had to be torqued a bit before we got a 52 lbs reading. Didn't get an exact number at what they started at, but they got a good half turn before they were torqued to spec. Known problem of joints being dry was apparent as well, so grease was added to them. To top it off, the wind howling was apparent on the drive home, so I'll be taping up those holes this weekend.

So many of the known issues existed on my truck and corrected. Although it really scares me thinking about what isn't yet known. For what it's worth, it's from the Baja factory.

Sorry to hear about all these issues but it just further proves the old adage that you should shy away from buying any new model of any vehicle in it's first year. Although it does seem that this is the first time Toyota has really dropped the ball and fallen into that category of automakers.

@RNapolis glad to hear that your dealer and tech took your concerns seriously, even better that you insisted on being there for the inspection. I am certain that the Toyota dealer I dealt with most recently wouldn't have been so courteous. It's nice to hear a good dealership story from time to time.
