I called Toyota Corp as well, but the guy I spoke with wasn't exactly accommodating. They did forward my complaint to the dealer I bought the truck from and I did get a call from Vinnie. Told Vinnie I would let him know the outcome and also told him that his service manager was a jerk which is why I am taking it to Livermore. He pretty much treated me like I didn't know what I was talking about. Typical when a women calls with all her ducks in a row, they still treat you like you don't know what you are talking about.
I would rather have the dealer check the fluid, if it's low it will be documented in case I have an issue in the future. Livermore Toyota was not able to tell me whether or not the low tranny fluid would cause future issues since it's a new tranny they don't know much about.

Just some 35% tint to match the rears and some 285/70/17 Falkens…
Without all the drama, I think we can all agree that there are waaayyyyy too many Tacomas leaving the dealership with low tranny fluid. It's a $37K truck and tranny fluid is sort of important. Toyota should be all over this as soon as the first customer reports it and it's found to be confirmed low. Apparently numerous people have. And that's just the ones on this website. To debate this is ridiculous. Not impressed w the communication between the dealers and corporate. There should be a TSB on it at this point. Period.

Really? TC fluid level has been an issue as well?

    What about the thermo?

    Just sayin'...
Needs to be pinned open to insure fluid has filled the cooling system on the tow package.

I checked mine last weekend without pinning it.
I'm checking it again pinned this weekend; drive it around the block/purge air.
I'm going to keep checking until I get a good drip out the check hole without having to add fluid.

Mine was checked and needed about 3/4 qt to form a slight trickle. I did not pin the thermostat as was not told to do so on the PDF. Now you got me thinking it needs to be done again with it pinned open this time.

Here is a pic of it on the tundra which should be about the same on tacoma (shown pinned) Press in then insert a pin to hold

After my last conversation with Toyota Corp, I'm not confident it's going to help my cause. Since I already made an appointment with another dealership, she said let's get another set of eyes on it. That made me furious. Told her I don't need to keep making multiple trips to any dealership because it's just taking up from my time and $$ when all I want is to have the trans fluid level checked. She said she'll look into it more and get back to me. Convo was two days ago and still no peep from her.

Got a call from service not too long ago and of course, they couldn't duplicate the issues so they want to see how my truck reacts in the morning. Looks like they're taking care of the BSM issue and tag light housing issue I also brought up, but my main concern is the transmission.

No, I meant that as " Mother-F'er, I would have done it that way if I had known the first time". I know how e-webs come across sometimes.

Not at you, I am in the same boat, doing it twice now. Thanks for the t-stat info, let me know you're out come.

Thanks for the info. This suggests pinning the t-stat isn't needed but, if either of you two that had plans to pin it do proceed with doing so please let us know your observations.

Now I'm thinking the correct procedure is; pin it from the start and unpin after check temp has been achieved.

Just got back from the dealer. I was just a little under 2qts low.
I have a tow package on mine. Its shifting MUCH better now. going up a hill it doesnt try to stay at like 1500rpm and barely chug along it actually shifts down properly to get me going up the hill. Its smoother and when I floor it before it would be a long hesitation and a very harsh down shift. now its a much shorter hesitation and much smoother downshift.

I'm getting pissed off reading this thread. I had mine checked, they said it was fine, but still having the same shifting issues. I honestly don't think they actually checked it when I went in for my 5k like I requested. I'm about to go back and raise some hell. Other than that, my truck is perfect, but this low tranny oil issue is going to blow up in Toyotas face if they don't do something now about it.

My transmission is full and still does the same thing. I have less than 1,000 miles maybe it be better later who knows. I have my dealership document twice now on the issues. When I go in for my next service I will have them document it again and check. It's all we can do for now. Till Toyota wakes their ass up and does something it's all we can do.

My thought too, that's why I wanted it checked and confirmed in writing! by the
dealers techs that is was checked and in working order.
