good deal man, and good luck. I asked them as well as many others have and
I've seen at least 5 different answers for u-bolt torque specs. Hard to believe
they're not all reading from the same damn manual.

The torque spec is surprisingly low, 37ft lbs

WTF so now we have three different numbers. Wonder why such a variation on this? 52 is what my dealer said. Blkbelt's dealer claims 110. Thanks for chiming in however!

Looks like the u-bolt torque is the same as the previous gen if that's straight from the manual. Members were saying that's too low and must've been a typo; 73 ft lbs is the correct torque. That's what I gathered from searching on here.

Mine are currently torqued to 52 ft lbs so I'm gonna leave it at that for the time being. At least now I know they're all torqued evenly.

    Right on.

There's pics posted of the 2nd gen manual and it's 37 ft lbs as well, hence my post. There's been members that said it finally went up from 37 when the word was the torque for the '16's is 52 ft lbs.

If it's 37 ft lbs, there really isn't much to fuss over; other than it being a low torque value.

I may be mistaken. I didn't actually look it up. I was using my memory on the 05-15 u bolt spec. I had rear axle slop on my 14 with lift blocks, so I torqued them down to 80ft lbs and no more slop. So adding some torque to yours don't hurt anything.

The manual lists 2 different torque specs. In the torque spec chart it lists 37ft/lbs. In the leaf spring replacement flow chart it lists 52 ft/lbs

Just got the truck back today. First let me say that Livermore, Ca Toyota service dept. is awesome!! So nice and so helpful. They checked the tranny oil for me and it was a quart low. Not enough to cause any damage but low enough to be a concern and to cause some minor issues.

They documented everything for me. I will not know if my surging issue has been resolved by adding the oil until I move the truck around in the morning when it"s cold.

I spoke with one of the head mechanics and he tells me that it"s not just limited to the trucks with the tow package. He is finding a lot of the 16"s in general have been low on tranny oil.

I will update whether or not this has resolved my surging issues.

Got my truck back today. Brand new transmission feels much much better. Toyota is awesome. Recognized there was a problem and replaced my tranny no questions asked.

It seems the dealers are relying on the techstream software to answer whether the transmission is low or full and we already know that the software is way out of range and incorrect .
Dealers need to pull the overflow plug just like you guys are doing at home when you are adding fluid using the jumper wire process .
If you look at the Toyota diagnostic tree for a transmission that slips in first gear , the diagnostic tree tells the technician to check the fluid level using the Techstream software rather than doing a manual fluid level check inspection .
I can account for 3 brand new 2016 transmissions within Tacoma World that had questionable circumstances and being replaced because of this .
Do we know what the minimum fluid level is that will cause damage ?
Yes , you guys are feeling symptoms at 3/4 of a quart low and some members have reported symptoms and added less than 1/2 a quart .
What is a safe low fluid level before damage will occur ? There is no safe fluid level before damage will occur .The longer you drive it with low fluid , the worse it will get .
These transmissions need to be filled properly

starting to think this trans just isnt smooth. I had my fluid checked last sat and was litle under 2qt low and they topped it off. Only 500miles on the truck then.
Seems cold when backing out of my driveway and going from R-D when its been sitting overnight it still gives me a hell of a delay a good second before it will kick into drive. When its warmed up it doesnt have that kind of delay from R-D
