I have pictures of an engine someone did this with.

The pieces are bolted to a display board as a warning to others.

if it trailered fine, and you felt no loss of power... put it in 4wd lo range, and you should be fine. just be smart about how deep you go.. just enough to float it...

Good call on getting electric brakes for those thats aren't familiar, normal surge brakes don't work in reverse. So much more likely to get pulled in the water. I'd say if you have a well maintained (not mossy and slippery) shallow ramp, you should be good during a high tide. Seems like every day you see a new video of a truck getting pulled in and I've noticed its not mostly smaller trucks. Once you hit the algae slippery stuff a heavier rig is gonna go down too.

Another piece of advice from a Toyota tech.

Let the axle cool before placing it in water. 2+ hours of hauling then shoving it into water is bad. It causes rapid cooling and water to enter the axle. 15 minutes goes a long way.

My VW Touareg TDI was rated to pull 7700 lbs. i alway towed a lighter trailer . Last one was 6000 loaded with everything for a week. I never liked the tail wagging the dog so to speck. It takes lots of traction and grunt to pull a boat out of the water and up a steep ramp. I think the Tacoma would do it but 6000 is a big load for it. All depends on how comfortable you are towing it.
