Depending upon why the truck was spontaneously shutting down could have directly caused the catalytic converter to fail. If it was a grounding issue to the ignition system, the truck could have been pumping fuel into the cylinders and it might not have been igniting it properly, thus sending raw unburnt fuel into the exhaust which is hell on a converter.

Man I feel for ya though. Sucks to be without the brand new truck that you paid (or are currently paying) for. But so far, it seems like your dealership is handling it respectably.

And to the person who asked if you get your broken parts, the answer is no. Customers cannot receive warranty parts as they are sent back to Toyota for diag.

They should take the whole truck back to corporate and rip it down.

That seems a bit premature at this point, don't you think? Unless the spontaneous shut down keeps occurring, why do that?

When you need to change the oil on your truck, do you pull the engine out and rip the whole thing down first?

I agree. It does seem premature to take it back unless the problem persist. That being said, I don't see any reason why Toyota couldn't throw me a "super" warranty on the electrical system or whatever they seem to think the problem is. From what I conclude, they don't really have an answer for what is the main issue.

On a side note, the truck was up on the rack when I went by yesterday and it had the brand new tint on it and had been detailed. LOOKED SWEET!!!!

Hope this has a good ending. I'd ask for a loaner at this point just because

    As Jberry already stated: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/hush-little-baby.397680/

    You know...the nursery rhyme...

Hush, little third gen-lings, don't say a word,
jberry's gonna school you about your turd.

Everybody knows it's got a big ass grill,
But whatever you do, don't park on a hill.

And when you get stuck on that steep decline,
Don't worry @BlueT will bitch about the oil pan design.

And if low oil pressure doesn't give you the shakes,
Don't forget about the fucking drum brakes.

And when you're trying to stop at the mall,
Better hope you're not 6 feet tall.

Maybe you're not that tall and you're still sucking your mamma's tit,
Just a fair warning, the QI wireless charging is shit.

You however can always depend on Toyota recalls,
Knee airbag bolts have been replaced to protect your balls.

This is all fun and games and I'm not pissed,
But I still bet you anything I'm on @TacoBella's ignore list.

To be honest, I wouldn't hold your breath on an electrical system super warranty. Think about how many countless trucks do not have the issue you have... If good parts were swapped in, you're likely to never have this issue ever again.

The issue could have been with the supplier of the fuse/relay box... something could have been soldered poorly, and it broke free. Then as you drove and hit bumps and it wiggled, it would kill the engine. I'm at 2,200 miles on mine with none of the issues discussed on here.

If anything, maybe push for your dealership to toss in some sort of aftermarket extended warranty that would cover electrical issues, but other than that, I think you'll get your truck returned to you in proper working order, you take your keys and move on. I've never heard of customers getting what you're asking for from Toyota.

You shouldn't have to ask. If they have to keep your vehicle overnight you are entitled to loaner per the warranty.

Not asking for anything and really don't mind it if I never see anything other than the truck functioning as it should. I've never asked for anything and don't really expect them to offer up anything either.

He mentioned he declined one due to having a work vehicle initially.

GM hosed me a few years ago on a warranty, which sucked. 16 days without my truck :(

Must just be poor quality control on that one. I have 1300 miles on mine after 3 weeks. even took it to the beach and wailed on it. Everything is great.

Sorry to hear that man but the warranty will take care of it

The OP has the patience of a saint!!

I'm with gsxxr, I would want a new truck.
There was another thread on here about a TW member getting a new truck after problematic issues.
I would have a hard time trusting a truck already raising codes & new parts
when I haven't made a payment or dished 30k+ on .....sorry.
The owners shouldn't be the test lab, take it back & figure it out.

But if parts were replaced and the issue isn't occurring anymore, how do you justify why? You couldn't even lemon law it, because the issue happened, was fix, returned, and didn't happen again.

You need to read his other thread also.

Plus you can force a buy back on a new car if it's in the dealership for exstended time with no answer to the problem.

    It hasn't been returned.
Plus now it needs a Catalytic Converter?
    Seriously 30 days?
I have owned Toyota trucks since 1987, many trucks, many miles...
I would not be happy having my 30k+ truck as a test pig.
It would go away............either by Toyota or it would get traded end of story
But I am not the OP I wish him luck.

Who said theres no answer? The first problem was fixed, the second problem is waiting on parts.

Did you guys actually read this thread? His original problem has been repaired, according to the service manager. And upon verifying problem has been repaired, a secondary issue was discovered, possibly related to the first issue, and is being handled without question. The truck has only been in production for 2-3 months now, and being a revised model, parts availability is an issue. Considering the dealership and Toyota is repairing the truck without question and offered a loaner, the wait time seems to be primarily because of lead time on parts, not due to laziness or malevolence by the dealership or TMS. Based on the circumstances, I honestly see no grounds for lemon law... But hey, I've been known to be wrong once or twice.

I think you should consider usage of "test pig". I have double the mileage on my 16 as the OP and I haven't had a single issue, along with several others who have even more miles than me.

The scarce parts deal seems to be becoming the norm for Toyota.
