I haven't even brought up the extended warranty request with corporate yet, I want to make sure they get it fixed first.

The dealership I bought the truck from included a non-transferable lifetime warranty on the powertrain when I purchased the truck, as long as the suggested maintenance is performed. I'll still push for the extended from Corp. though.

After I was told that the dealership had ordered the new rear diff I called corporate. I told them what was going on, and that I would like a 7 year 100k warranty because my confidence had been shaken. They told me that they would contact the dealer and get back to me at a later day. They called me back on the day that they said they would and told me that they couldn't make me an offer until the repair was complete and the issue was resolved. I told them when the repair was scheduled to happen, and they told me that I would hear from them the following day. Sure enough the day after I got the truck back they called me, asked if I was satisfied (which I was at the time), and then said they were giving me the 7 year 100k warranty. Easy as pie!

They're offering me the platinum warranty not just Powertrain. I haven't accepted yet

Mine was the complete Platinum Warranty as well.

Not sure what, or if, I will ask for when I tell the dealer that my second diff is having the same issue. I think I am still holding on to the shred of a hope that it is just the new diff "breaking in" as it barely has 1k on it....A man can dream right?

Toyota is trying to improve their value by boosting their cost, via warranty.

The only reason they would do this is because the defect density for the 2016 is unusually high.

Yeah here's my problem though. They won't fix the leaf springs under warranty. So begs the question what good is the warranty when they claim half the shit is normal for the vehicle or "live with it"

Not sure if I updated here but they replaced my rear end. Corporate is very busy on my case. I called and talked to someone I had never spoke with before and the guy said "Oh yeah I know your name and I know your case manager has been working on your case today." The Toyota Regional Engineer is flying out mid next week to look at my truck. I'm going to have them take a look at the leaf springs and the transmission, particularly when I first hop in it to go to work I am getting a shift flare between 2nd a 3rd driving through the neighborhood. I'll be out of town for a week so they should have plenty of time to play around with it.

They flashed my ECU they called it "Updating the ECU" but he said there is nothing to really update as no significant software has been released at least nothing that would impact vehicle performance. It does feel a bit tighter in the rear end now but the shifting and transmission performance feels the same. I'd expect a little tighter in the rear because of the new diff--not bad or good; just an observation. They did not give me any break-in instructions (i.e. no towing first 500 miles) which I found odd. My experience with Muscle cars on a new rear diff you'd get the fluid changed after the first 500 miles and then they tell you not to put any abnormal stress on it during that same period.

The platinum warranty is much better than power train. Good for you smitty, get that 8/125k. But I'd not leave dealer with truck until you are completely satisfied. I'd go straight to GM if service bs you.

Hopefully that will at least slove the whine problem for you, and permanently! After posting here yesterday, I called the dealer about my second diff whining, and got an appointment for next week for them to take a look at it.

Are you going to be there with the engineer? I remember one person on here got an engineer to fly out and they just drove it around the block without them, said everything was normal and flew away the same day. All that time and effort of getting someone out there for nothing.

If you aren't there with them, hopefully you can have a very very detailed description of what is going on for the more obscure issues. The leaf springs will be undeniable though no matter what.

I just got back from a drive with both the service manager from the local dealership and the regional manager as well. They're going to be replacing my differential.

WTF this must be a huge issue. I can't believe how many folks are now experiencing this. Dealer told me the repair is somewhere north of $3k.... must be a high percentage of trucks being impacted. Going to cost Toyota some coin especially if they can't diagnose root case. Several I've seen now are saying the noise returns after several thousand miles post-replacement..... how many rear Diffs will toyota keep replacing before they perform a RCA?

I don't know man, buying a Colorado or Canyon is a bit rash over a case like this...

Peep it... "Client states replace differential parts under warranty per last inspection. Client states howling noise when coasting on freeway. OP Code 410101 91/19 Rear Diff making noise due to premature wear of rear differential. Failed part 41110-0K630. Noise occurs at 60MPH when feathering the gas. Not under hard accel or deceleration. Duplicated on freeway and vehicle lift. Used stethoscope and noise was heard loudest at rear differential. TAS CASE # 161870962."

So my question -- whats causing the premature wear?
