UPDATED:am i the only one with this issue? media system restarting without reason

Toyota seems to have a ton of software updates for a similar media system issue with the 4runner and sienna. I wish they would fix it before releasing the tacoma to the market.

 

Mine has done it twice now after starting the engine.
1st time was Saturday after the truck had sat for 2 weeks. It rebooted itself twice then was fine.

Then again today again after starting the engine. Rebooted twice then was fine.

Headed to the dealer tomorrow for this and other minor stuff.

 

I had a 2014 Nissan Rouge that was doing the same thing, they tried updating the software twice and when that did not work they replaced the unit and that solved the problem.

 

I've had my '16 for almost a week, haven't had any restart issues with the media system.

 

Yep, mine has done this several times and seems like it's getting worse. I just put the Entune in action two days ago. I chalked it up to an app glitch. I'm going to let the dealer know just for a "marker". It is aggravating though.

 

My radio crashed on day two. Worked intermittently after that. Was replaced under warranty Monday and all functions have worked seamlessly since.

 

My radio does the same crap, its happened over 20 times in the past 2 weeks I've owned the vehicle....

 

I have my ipod classic connected through the usb. it seems to restart or need me to manually reboot it at least once a night if not more. it is random in the time it chooses. it does have about 16k songs on it but i would like to know why it keeps doing it. i have no problem with the ipod hooked in through headphones and/or normal listening.

 

Well mine does it on anything, Bluetooth audio, navigation, radio, or even complete silence. Either way there is no excuse for this after buying a 37k truck...

Even at a stop, so bumps are not doing it.

 

I haven't ran into this issue. But I have had connection issues. Sometimes the first time I connect after a few days being in the truck Pandora seems to be skipping. I have to disconnect the entune app and go back to it then all is well. Never had it happen with any other Bluetooth device.

 

Mine crashed on day one coming home from the dealer. The next day I installed the entune app on my phone which required an update for my head unit. After the update I haven't had an issue, knock on wood.

 

Wish I could say the same, I did the entune app like 4 days ago and I still get reboots...

 

do the update, and keep your texts to under 100 per thread and under 20-30 MMS per thread.

usually BT will crash if you have way to many to transfer from the phone to the headunit. also people with funky characters in your contacts doesn't help either.

this results in the headunit crash due too much BT info transfer or funky characters.

that's just my observations on my 2014 4runner until I did the above.

 

On topic but off the mark. I had a 2011 Tacoma in the past with the same issue. I had replaced the factory head unit with a video system with satellite radio. Top notch stuff from Alpine. After I ran the Alpine unit for a while it started to do the same thing. I initially was told by Alpine it was overheating but after doing a whole bunch of bitching and moaning I found a loose ground. I replaced the ground on the unit and it quit doing it. Just my $0.02.

 

Good to hear, I will tell the dealer about the possible loose ground, if that doesnt work than they replace my head unit.

 

Did you ever come up with a solution? Mine did this yesterday on a long drive.

 

My new 2 week old 2016 4runner does the same thing

 

sub'd I've had my 2016 for a little over a month now and HU restarted for the first time. After reading the thread it sounds like the general consensus is either a loose power plug or loose ground?

 

Thats the general guess but no one has come up with anything definitive as of yet.

 

I notice @skier got his HU replaced under warranty and hasn't had an issue since. If my HU restarts again, I'm gonna go that route. No reason we should be having this problem with a $36k truck. It's not like entune is a new thing either.
