Yep, 4,000 miles now and replacement HU has been perfect. Use Bluetooth, bluetooth music and/or USB tunes nearly every day with Android phone

Mine (JBL) would do this but more often then you are experiencing and sometimes I would have no more volume after re-boot. They replaced the whole head unit.

Mine did this once about a month ago and then nothing until this morning. On my drive to work which is about 45 min, it restart three different times. I called my dealership this morning, just waiting for a callback. This is BS

Just got off the phone with my dealership. They are well aware of this issue and he thinks that the firmware needs updated. He said when the truck was built if it didn't have the latest version of firmware installed then that could be causing the unit to shutdown randomly. I have an appointment on 12/28 for them to check the firmware and if it isn't that they said they would have to open a "tech case" to see about getting me a new unit. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it's just the firmware. He said the appointment should only take about 60-90 minutes. I'll report back after my appointment on 12/28.

My 2014 does likes to reboot about once a week while I'm just listening to the radio. Hopefully Toyota will develop a simple solution so we do not have to go to the dealer.

My 2014 does it about once a week and will sometimes just freeze up and not reboot. I have to turn off the truck to get it to reset. The dealer did a software update about 6 mos ago which made it better but it still does it.

    Update 2: 01/15/16
After 3 months of talking to my dealer and corporate customer service. I finally had my Head unit replaced. BUT... the same thing is happening. I have videos of it shutting of 2x in my 2 hour drive. I will post it when i find the time. I know now that this is happening to a lot of people and even in other Toyota models.. but... It's just not something I'm willing to just let go.. It's a brand new truck and it is annoying...

Has anybody had better luck than me? I just don't have the time to keep bringing my truck to the dealer so that they can experiment on it and just tell me that they can't replicate the issue, so there is no issue.

At this point I would look at what actually supplies power to the unit. For example, is a connection in the back of the fuse loose?

Happened to me also. Was playing the xm radio and just shuts down and turns back on. Thought I was just getting a bad signal, so switched to playing music from the iPod. Same thing happened. About 2 or 3 times during a 2. Hour span. Will take back to the dealer.

If you have much time to spend at the dealer, they can actually attempt to diagnose and find out what's wrong but other members here have left their truck only to be told that they could not "replicate" the issue and stuck with waiting for a software update which has no ETA.

I have a video of it shutting off and expressed my frustrations to the dealer until replaced my Head Unit. It still does the exact same thing. So I am not even going back to the dealer for now. I have a case open with Toyota corporate but they are not even helpful.

I found out though that if I set my destination and actually use the GPS, it will never shut off! So I have set my destination in that 2 hour drive as Home and set the other destination as my #1 saved location. I tried this about 3x already. It doesn't shut off while the Navigation is in use. Just set a destination every time you do a long drive, if you do it regularly like I do.

The problem with previous year models was that it shuts off when overloaded (E.G. Navigation is in use, and you're phone is connected, and you are using your XM radio). They probably overdid something trying to fix it. Now it is shutting off when the Navigation is not in use.

I got my Tacoma in December and this has started to happen mine as well. I've had it happen about 4 times since mid December and it did it again today on my way into work. It's rare when but it gets annoying since like you said...its a brand new truck.
I totally intend on taking it in and see what, if anything they can do.

Not sure this is your issue, but just FYI. This happened to me after I swapped in an old larger 27F battery to my 2016 to see if it fit (I wanted to see if I could fit that size in because it is better for winching, etc.). I drove around with the old battery for a day and had many many restarts on the media system. Replaced the old battery with a new one and back to normal with zero restarts. Might want to have your battery tested and check connections.

I was having the issue when both my Plantronics Bluetooth headset and the Entune were connected to my phone at the same time. When I would get a notification, the Entune system would reboot. Now when I get in the truck, I turn the Plantronics headset off and let the Entune system do everything. No more reboots!!!

Have a 2016 OR no tech package with an Android phone paired and a USB connected to listen to my music library. My Entune/HU has yet to reset during any drives and the truck is just under 5k miles on it.

I have a TRDOR AC and mine restarts for no reason. No phone connected just turn the truck on and drive. I've only got 1600 miles on it. I've heard there was an update for it to be downloaded but I haven't done it yet.

Just had this happen to me today for the first time with 15829 on the truck. Looks like I'm gonna have every known issue with mine at the rate I'm going.

Just driving along and the head unit locked up and there was screeching from the speakers until it rebooted. After it restarted everything was fine again.
