UPDATED:am i the only one with this issue? media system restarting without reason

I got this when I had my phone bluetoothed to the Entune system and my buddy was playing music through the USB with his phone. Unplugging his phone stopped the restarts. I.e. only one phone either bluetooth or USB at a time.

 

My 7/15 build 2015 does it. Toyota blamed my phone/won't troubleshoot it.

 

Took my 2014 into the dealer this morning and they installed a software update......hopefully it's fixed.....only time will tell.

You may want to take a look at updates available for the 2nd gen forum.
They may provide you with more info about the newest update for your truck.

Noticed this twice now on my off road, 2k miles. So far, has only done it right after start up.

 

Yeah this has happened a few times in my truck too. Also notice when I'm driving to work (its still in nighttime mode) the screen will get super bright and go into daytime mode for a few seconds (like the traffic info is updating? I see some construction or traffic logos / colors) but thats kinda weird and a little distracting when its switches to daytime mode like that.

 

My 2012 prius did this about twice a week for the 3 years I owned it. Only happened while an iphone was connected via bluetooth and with both a iP4 and iP6s+. And occasionally the NAV system would freeze. I dont think this is as much a Tacoma problem as it is an issue with buggy system software Toyota uses for some of their head units.

 

Mine has done this before too. Always right after a system update but it only happens once per update... at least so far.

 

I wonder if this is specific Entune JBL upgrade/ phone configurations having this problem causing resets.

I daily drive my TRDOR without the additional tech, my Android phone (Samsung S4) connected via bluetooth and I have yet to observe a reset of the Entune system. I'm not streaming music through my phone but listen to either satellite radio or my music on usb constantly.

I do receive texts and calls through Entune and I haven't dropped a call yet.

 

I experienced this for the first time this last weekend. I have about 6000 kms on the truck now. Went on about a 9 hour road trip, no nav on, no phone connected at all, playing music through a USB stick and it restarted probably 6 times throughout the 9 hours.

Sometimes it would do it just completely out of the blue, and other times it would be when I would hit the steering wheel "next song" button.

 

Just happened to me no idea what caused it, was only listening to Sirius

 

Taking a trip to N California coast, my head unit is resetting multiple times. Seems to be possibly a GPS thing for me when we are a certain distance from the coast seems to do it. Loses gps setting etc..

My wife's iPad was plugged into the USB port to charge. Will leave that unplugged today to see if that helps

When we get home will be calling the dealer. Not good when your on unfamiliar roads.

Has there been any dealer software updates?

Left the iPad unplugged, no problems with head unit today, looks like an issue with the USB port from what I am reading here on Tacoma world.

 

Happened to me yesterday, 2016 DC Off-Road with JBL Entune system, less than 2k miles on the truck. iPhone connected by bluetooth & listening to XM radio, system rebooted three times in three miles. It was a cool & rainy day and truck had been sitting in my work parking lot for about 10 hours, was wondering if weather could have affected anything?

 

get the radio updated at a dealer for free.

There was a forced over-the-air update a while back (a few weeks?) do you think that would/should have performed the update mentioned in the TSB or was it something different? Mine just reset for the first time a couple days ago.

 

That was entune. The radio update is separate, unfortunately.

Mines just started doing this yesterday, restarted twice on a one hour road trip. It auto updated the second week after I purchased the truck in late September.
