I would probably just keep running it. Unless you run an ultra low weight flywheel it should be fine.

Kristi with a K, I think by now you should have your master mechanic certificate from Toyota for all the work you've done on this Truck. Keep up the good work.

    Soooo….
After installing the pioneer, yet not reassembling, I sat on it for a bit. Then it occurred to me that with that extra metal, it possibly, probably, most likely, weighs more…. So, I just removed it, which by the way, is a major PITA when the red loctite (edit - I have never used it before & thought I was screwing up by not using it. Guess I was doing it correctly all along) is fresh & cured, or at least I’m guessing that’s why.
Anyway, the pioneer weighs in at 11.2lbs. The crankshaft is balanced for 10.1. Maybe this isn’t a big deal? But just like the lightweight pulley can have negative affects, so can one that’s too heavy.

Funny you say that because I have never used it before & I thought I was screwing up by not doing it. I just looked it up & no, do not use…. Live & learn…. Besides all the while as I fought to get the bolt off I’m saying to myself, I’m never using this again!

Where the heck did I get that from?!?! It’s bugging me. I typically look stuff up if I’m unsure. I’m seeing to even use anti seize!

I've always used a new crank bolt, a little blue locktite and a torque wrench

You are really fortunate to have been able to remove it with the red in place. Normally it takes a good bit of heat and an impact gun.

I got it. The bolt was definitely not happy when I threaded it in. I used a small wire brush on the wanna be Dremel tool & that seemed to take care of it.

& Phew! As much of a PITB as this whole thing has been, something going horribly wrong because of my numbnuts move woulda just done me in! Well, until I mopped myself up off the floor & got to it….

    Whatever K!!!!
    Good to know others(besides me)
Realize their mistakes and have to do work Twice !!!

interesting Q about the weight difference

    LCE says 2.5lbs
OE/AM (lets just average here) 10.7lbs

    IMO
    dropping 8lbs….maybe an issue
Dropping 1.1lbs….not so much…think yur good

hell, maybe reason OE so expensive they trademarked the weight? lol

The pioneer would actually add weight. Or maybe I misunderstood you.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but there seem to be a bunch of knowledgeable folks here:

I'll be replacing the 3RZ in a 95.5 I just bought and I keep reading about replacing the harmonic balancer. Why not just re-use the old OEM one? Is it 'cause the front main seal rides on the HB and should have a new sealing surface?

Thx in advance for the wisdom.

The 3rz and 5vz balancers are constructed differently :notsure:

Definitely! I see in both cases, though, mechanics replacing the HB. What's the reasoning? Sealing surface?
