Just completed cleaning the throttle body and IAC valve (thanks @Timmah! ) and noticed a few compromised parts. Wanted to check in with the TW fam to see if anyone knows anything. They are:

    1) Dashpot lid is broken on 1/3 of cap rim. The lid actually fell off while I was cleaning the TB, dumping a little filter on the ground. I dusted it off and did my best to pop the lid back on. Did I break this? Probably. Does it really need to be replaced? That's what I'm trying to figure out. I've searched the site for people talking about this part but there isn't much info out there. I did read that a poorly adjusted Dashpot can cause the truck to lurch when the throttle is released, which I do experience mildly. This could be reason enough to replace, but for a $60 part that doesn't seem to perform a relatively obvious/"critical" function, I figured I'd ask first.

    2) EDIT: [1) I have now learned this is where the PCV valve connects to the air intake tube; 2) the oil I saw around this nipple means my PCV valve needs to be replaced. Oil is being pushed through PCV valve, into air intake tube, then through TB. New PCV has been ordered.]

On the side of the air intake tube that's closer to the TB, there is a nipple that connects to an air hose. The nipple is pointed at the firewall. Couple things I noticed about this piece: 1) hose was splitting about 1/4 inch so I removed that bit with an exacto knife. 2) the area surrounding the nipple was stained with something, as was the inside of the nipple. It looked like oil but I have no idea how that could be the case. 3) on closer inspection, and the main reason I'm asking this, is that the nipple is actually a separate part from the intake tube -- and it's fitment seemed to be a bit loose. I was able to pull the nipple out easily by hand. I cleaned it and put it back in. It stays in, but I wouldn't call it snug or sealed. I was tempted to use some sort of sealant to secure it to the air tube body, but, again, wanted to ask before I went and superglued any parts together. Trying to decided if that's how it's meant to be (kind of loose, like a little bit of air could get in/out, or if the looseness might be causing some disruption, vacuum leak sort of thing).

    See: IMG_2169

    3) I found a plastic hose clamp w nothing in it. It's located just above the passenger corner of the plastic belt cover. It looks like a U. My only thought here was it was either designed for an option I don't have, or I'm missing something.

    See: IMG_2171

Thanks for taking a look and for any insight. Once these issues are out of mind, it's on to the valve cover gasket job. Parts on order as of this morning.

RE: the Dashpot, I ordered what I thought was the right replacement part (it wasn't) and the screw holes didn't line up. Now I'm searching online and not finding a single image of a Dashpot for sale that looks like the one that was screwed to my throttle body. As far as I know, that part was original with the truck.

Has anyone ever had to replace theirs? If yes, did it it look like mine? If also yes, where did you buy it?

My research shows this as the correct part, Toyota Part No.:22202-62190.

Is the new incorrect part from the dealer or aftermarket. Sometimes, if the parts guy at the dealership is understanding they will special order the part and if it is incorrect refund you your money.

fwiw, the job of that dash-pot is to keep the throttle from closing too quickly. It is an emissions thing first and a drive ability thing second.

Thank you for the feedback. I'm going to call to verify that part number on Monday. It was from an online parts store operated by a dealership out of Boulder CO. Hopefully I can get someone on the phone who can confirm the part # you provided. The one that arrived is "22202-65040" -- which is, for anyone else reading this, not the right one. The reason I ordered it to begin with is that I damaged the plastic cap on the top of it when cleaning the throttle body and have been running a high idle (approx. 1100rpm) ever since. I thought maybe that was the source, though after reading your comment, I'm thinking I'm probably wrong on that.

Hey ,I was know this is an old post.

Do you by chance still have that dash pot 22202-65040?

If so I’d like to buy it.

No, I returned it. You should try McGeorge Toyota, they might have it.

This has been a problem for me, and I finally tracked it down to this dashpot. I had a high idle unexpectedly of about 2,000rpm consistently. I cleaned and checked everything. TB, TPS, got a new IAC, MAF, checked for vacuum leaks, etc. The dashpot ended up being broken and keeping the throttle butterfly open an extra millimeter, which in turn let more air in and made it idle high. Currently I just untightened the screw that comes in contact with the hammer of the dashpot from the throttle linkage, therefore disabling it. My RPM is now at a normal 700-750, but my revs drop fast now (because the whole point of the dashpot is to slow that for drivability and emissions). Im not too worried about that, the new dashpot is on the way (part number 22202-62190). it was $95 which is a ton for such a small simple device but whatever.
