I have seen some post about this but not seen a clear answer with part numbers.
I am interested in replacing the front coilovers that come with the Fabtech 6" drop bracket lift with a higher quality shock.
Has anyone experimented with this setup and have any recomendations on what to upgrade to.
Looking for information on what brand names and model numbers will work. I assume it will be custom to off the shelf OR using a drop top mount.
Would love to get details on a non-custom setup that does not cost $2K.....if you know what I mean.
    Thanks

Well there are, but you want quality.

    Is $1k feasible?

Yes..$1K is. I gave a budget up to $2K. Looking for ALL recommendations. Even if crazy money. That way I can lay it all out and come up with the best plan for me.
Replies like "does not compute" provide no help.

Ok so here's a real question; what is your vehicle usage?

You want quality shocks but for what purpose?

Higher quality ride while driving on roads? Or a quality ride off road?

If you want a quality off road ride, you'll give up on road manners, and you'll want that fabtech kit off.

If it's on road you seek, I'll let others chime in.

Thanks...looking for on road ride quality. I do not need crazy travel or sustained heat control.
I am not a rock crawler off roader.
But do appreciate quality in adjustable coilovers and not having to replace in a few years.
The ones that come with the Fabtech kit seem fairly "average".
Also not looking for opinions on the goods and bads of the Fabtech kit.
This is a question about what shock options will fit with the extended length requirements of this kit.
    Thanks...

Your best bet is going to be to call a shop like @AccuTune Offroad or @Downsouth Motorsports with a list of the specs you know about the current shocks. Depending on the size and configuration there are things they can do such as longer rod ends to build a coilovers that works for your setup. For a price reference the BDS 6" drop bracket kit for the 2nd gen has a $1600 premium for the Fox coilovers.

If you are able to provide measurements of length from lower eye to top hat, coil length, collapsed/extended length it will make the search easier.

Thanks, I will look in to those. I can provide measurements so hopefully I can get options.
Surprised more people have not done this already.

Not to talk shit but most of the people with that style of lift are used to driving around in trucks that feel like red rider wagons. Many drop bracket owners are worried mostly about the looks and are willing to put up with a kidney punch when you hit a bump.

Also the TW hive mind hates drop bracket lifts and shits on anyone considering them so users with them don't always stick around. As long as you are aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the kit, you should be fine. It is totally possible to set them up for offroading but it takes $$$.

I understand....I have thick skin and been around a while. Bought my first Toyota 4x4 in 1984 which was a 1983. I have owned many straight axle Yotas along the way with lifts from 3" to 7". I know all about varied ride quality.
I really don't understand the dislike about drop bracket kits as this Fabtach is very well engineered and built. Since I am older and "retired" from off roading I enjoy the ride height so I don't worry about what most probably dislike about this kit.
I really wish people would accept ALL Tacomas and stop giving opinions because every truck and owner have their own purpose.
If you have a bad A$$ off road truck great for you...if you have a low rider great for you. I will not say your lift or truck sucks because it is what you built and what you want.
    Off soap box.

Has anyone used Bilstein Shocks with a spacer? If so how did it ride and what size spacer did it require

Bilstein makes a stupid amount of variants, likely they have one that is a bolt on replacement for the one included in the kit.
