    Looking for Good Ideas!
Hello, everyone! With over experience of 15 consecutive years driving two different Tacoma’s, I am finally making a move and upgrading my tire/wheel combo. I have a 2018 TRD Sport, with stock 17 inch alloy wheels.
Yesterday, I mounted BFG KO2 tires in the size, 275/70 R17, (slightly larger than the stock 265/65 R17). On full lockout of the wheel, the opposite tire rubs against the upper control arm. My understanding of the stock wheels is that they are offset at +30 if I were to upgrade the wheels to a zero offset, or a -12, would this solve the rubbing issue?
Thanks in advance for all your input!

An offset approaching 0 (or negative) will get you away from the upper control arm and help you clear there. But you will most likely start to rub in the mud flap/cab mount area of the lower wheel well....

Pick your poison or start trimming!

Spacers. I have stock wheels with 285/70 and I believe 1.25 wheel spacers. No issues.

I have already trimmed the polymer from the rear of the front fender well, (in anticipation of the possibility of rub) - plenty of clearance in the 275/70, and didn’t need trimming for the stock wheel offset. The biggest question I have is related to the stock wheel being a +30 offset… is it +30? If so, would spacers @ the 0.75” sizing be enough to clear? Looking for anyone with a similar experience to advise. And, going forward, would a 0 offset significantly shift he tire/ wheel combo away from the upper control arm, without having to go to a negative offset?

One question… hub-centric, or slip-on? And, thank you for that feedback!

Presuming all things are equal, (2018 TRD Sport, with equal ride height), the BFG KO2 275/70 R17 clears without trimming, except for the upper control arm at full lockout, , (opposite side of turn). Believe I will be placing 1.25 inch spacers, based on other comments listed here. I’ll keep ya posted.

Go to the 27570r17 thread. All different options there for you. So many members run those tires/wheels.

In 15 years of Tacoma ownership you never saw or heard about this thread?

With 265/70R17s on my stock wheels (both Wildpeaks and Nokians Outposts), the tire was mighty close to the UCA. So, I can see how you might get contact with 275s.

Yes, though. Going with a smaller offset will fix that. I recently went with SCS Ray10s and now have about 1.5in to 2.0in of clearance at the UCA. That has me thinking about maybe getting a full set of chains.

Note that I did have a bit of rubbing on the LCA at full lock with the stock wheels. Never heard or felt it though.

Neat site to help visualize the offset and tire size changes:

dd light bars, trd cat back exhaust, KDMax tuned, trd skid plate, 2" lift, sema wheels toyo open country at3 tires.
that isnt slightly larger, that is quite a bit larger.

when I went from 265/65r17, to 265/70r17, on my sport, with the SEMA wheels, it was a slightly larger tires size but, still rubbed a bit on the rear portion of the fender liners, in certain conditions, tight turns, up hill, going backward, until I added a 2" lift, and asked the alignment shop for as much caster as I could get and still drive, ride well, and not wear tires.

good luck in your quest, sounds like you will need new wheels, or other changes to make this work. Ski

Pretty sure they were hubcentric. But it’s been a few years and I’m scatter brained as can be. So I might be wrong… but I did figure it out on my own, if that helps. A few google searches and I knew what was what…

Hey Dubdaddy86, how do you like those Coopers and are those 285/70R17 on Stock rims...what size spacers you using? I have an Ibach lift set at 2.5 inches (Front is adjustable).....so my clearance is is fine..its the UCA rub Im trying to avoid....also how do you like those?

Yep, 285/70 and I have 1” Bora wheel spacers and the exact same setup with the lift. The Coopers were GREAT…. Until they weren’t. Checked all my boxes. Looked phenomenal, rode good and quiet, performed good off-road, yada yada. Once they started to wear, totally different story. My truck rode like a warped wheel wagon. Truck rattled, shook, made noises it’s never made. I was legit worried they were going to cause damage to my truck. Like all the vibrations cause the ball joints to snap or something. Two of my best friends have the SSTs and they have the same exact experience with theirs. On two totally diff trucks, a F150 and a 2500HD. Never again.

UCA clearance is fine and I only rub a tad. Turning into my driveway, there’s a dip, if I hit it just right- with enough speed, and almost at full lock, they’ll run a tad on the back of the fender. Otherwise no fitment issues at all, anywhere. You can see where the tire hits JUST ENOUGH to rub the paint off every once in a while. And those are BFG KM3s now and I love them so far.
