Hi guys, i just totaled my 2019 TRD sport with over 14,000.00 upgrades and just found out today that unless you have extra coverage for these you don’t get any reimbursement. Gulp.
I called my agent and she said yes that is true but you can fill a home owners loss claim for the items. So that’s what i did. That won’t happen again

Yup, I took out the extra coverage as soon as my add-ons exceeded the $1,000 included with the policy. Wasn't expensive at all, less than $20.

Sorry to hear about your truck. Hopefully the vehicle was the only casualty.

    A bunch of junk
I'm on the 5k additional coverage but soon reaching what's called "as stated" value.
So you could say it's worth blah blah and just have to pay extra each month

Hope that works out for you.

I found that true in the case of theft of items from the vehicle but not from an accident........... and even with the theft, all receipts were required then depreciated by a substantial amount.

Interesting...I must have paid extra insurance for the 2003 Honda Pilot. When a lady took my Pilot away by striking me stopped in the suicide lane in Oct 2018.

When it came time to appraise my truck, the add-ons the appraiser indicated were noted and increased the value of my total loss vehicle.

I don't remember asking for it but since I've been with USAA for 20+ years, I've spoken to agents (years ago) who make recommendations regarding benefits.

Multi-Insurance discounts are definitely a benefit.

Hmm. There isn't usually coverage for auto parts damaged by collision under a home policy. Theft, maybe. Collision, not with most policies.

Personal property stolen from a vehicle is definitely covered under most homeowners policies, but it's subject to deductible. At least that was my experience. How they will treat personal property damaged by a collision that was actually part of the truck at the time I have no clue. It will be interesting to see what the outcome is.

if you dont tell the insurance provider you have extras, and they dont collect a premium for the coverage, you dont have coverage. most providers have a default coverage for add on items of approx 1000.00 anything above that, you need an additional policy. Ski

I added my camper shell on my insurance. My premium went up about $60 for the year, so not bad to cover something that’s almost $4K to replace. They just had me send them a copy of the receipt.

If you’re not at fault, and don’t have extra coverage on your own policy, will the other drivers insurance cover the additional value of your modifications?

If the other party is at fault they owe you, as long as you have documentation. If you have not notified you insurance and endorsed additional equipment coverage on your policy your screwed. I have every receipt for work done. I called my company direct, had them add 10k in additional equipment coverage and it raised the premium 35 a month. But I am covered for everything and have receipts.

Here is the thing to watch out for. If the vehicle is a total loss, you may not get all that back. You will get ACV of the vehicle and not ACV plus aftermarket parts

You only get what your policy covers regardless of fault. IE: if you don't have rental car and your not at fault, you still don't get a rental car.

I don’t have anything extra on mine. When I had a claim, I just sent them the invoices for the items and they covered it.

Yup. I actually just thought of this a few days ago. Called my farmers agent and added 9k coverage for additional equipment. Costs about $120 a month extra
