    What engine?

Can't put a chip in a 3.4L V6 computer. Must send the whole computer off. Not worth it IMHO.

Headers are a major PITA also. You can do a cat back exhaust for $$. I chose to just weld a Magnaflow. Really just improved the sound.

Several companies sell intake systems. I had a K&N on my first Tacoma way back when. It improved throttle response but left the intake wide open to suck in water. My second and third Tacoma's had the Deck Plate mod with a K&N stock replacement filter. Improved intake sound but it is a serious debate if it helps or not. Also the oil may screw with your MAF.

My latest Tacoma now has a completely stock intake with standard filter for reliability.

I think the cheapest performance "mods" are just making sure it is running clean. Fresh plugs, clean the MAF and throttle body, Seafoam in brake booster vacuum line.
