    Good evening,

I am thinking about upgrading my car stereo since it is on its way out. I upgraded probably 5 years ago to a JVC radio. I really liked this radio and am wondering can I just slap a new JVC radio in plug and play or will I have to rewire with a new connector just like getting a new radio? If its the latter I probably wont upgrade since the truck has high mileage.

If you have not modified the OEM wire harness you should find a direct plug and play unit.

You already made a harness to go from OEM to the JVC in it currently? You want to know if the JVC plug from your current radio will fit a newer JVC headunit? Is that right? If so, you should be fine with another JVC unit. Most manufacturers don’t change the pinouts of their mid to low grade units.

JVC from 5 years ago will probably still be the same if you’re not changing styles

Meaning, If you are going from a basic stereo to a touch screen with dvd capability, you may not get so lucky.

but if you already have a touchscreen (or a basic stereo) and are upgrading to the same style you have, you’ll probably be ok.

Worst case, you cut the current harness in half and buy a pack of red butt connectors and crimp up the new harness in about 5 minutes
