I’ve recently bought a new Double Din head unit (Dual DMCAP70) and plan to swap my head unit to gain extra features (CarPlay, Bluetooth, etc…). I’ve got the Double Din adapter/faceplate (Metra) but I cannot figure out which interface I need to retain steering wheel controls. Also I’m not sure if I need anything additional (I.e wiring harnesses, etc…).

What should I go with? (PaC, Metra, Idatalink, Crux).

Hoping to keep all features (fade/balance) and not have to spend more than I paid for the head unit.

Check out www.crutchfield.com You can even call them and they'll tell you what adapters you need.

What little I know or think, you're going to need a wiring harness that will adapt your new HU wiring to plug into the OEM plugs.

About as much as I can contribute, I'm still rockin with the factory 6 disc player/radio.

Can you ask the people from which you bought the headunit? Any way you can return the headunit you bought? Buy the whole package from Crutchfield.

Bought the head unit from Advance Auto for a great price with coupon and reward points. Crutchfield did not have the head unit in stock but I can build the radio and install package on Crutchfield despite it being out of stock. however they offer 4 different options at varying price points for SWC interface modules and I’m not sure which one to go with.

Usually the top package makes everything compatible. The cheaper ones might leave something out like steering wheel controls. I thought it says in the description what each one offered? I'd just call and ask them.

I definitely recommend calling Crutchfield, they'll get you hooked up with the right items. I don't have the controls so I can't personally help I'm afraid

Also you might want to return the metra surround for the radio and get the schocse brand much better quality and fitment

I went with the Metra because mine is silver and textured. Wanted to keep it somewhat similar.

also what year is your truck? I’d like to add those usb inputs between the cigarette lighter outlets in mine but mine isn’t flat. What did you use?

Mine must be a Metra. It has a dimpled surface instead of smooth like the picture. I had it all done instead of trying to do it myself. Had to bring it back a couple times because of, like you said, fit issues. I’d accidentally press the hazard flasher button, it would get stuck on, I’d have to pull over and monkey with it until it would turn off. Now I noticed the top wants to pop out if I touch it.

Stewartadamc. Are you certain you want the steering wheel controls? If you’re used to having it and like having it then maybe yes. I had the installer include the necessary adapter for it, kinda regretting that choice now. I never use them unless accidentally counts. The touchscreen is pretty intuitive. Rest your hand on the dash with your thumb hovering over the screen, a quick glance away from the road, touch the screen while your eyes are on the road.
