    Been reading a lot of threads about upgrading the gen 2 headunits and speakers. I’ve acquired the DS18 PRO-ST 1.9" tweeters and a pair of the
    DS18 ZXI-694 6x9 along with the metra connectors and speakers plates. Now looking at a reasonable headunit on crutchfield the
    JVC KW-M788BH. Basic functions and hopefully a vast improvement over the stock non-jbl that I have. All said and done with the install kit/bezel/harnesses its just under $600.-

    If anyone has installed this model your thoughts/opinions are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Just a side note on those DS18 tweeters - I recently bought the same ones and they were NOT plug and play for my 06 access cab. The factory tweeter plugs didn't plug into the DS18's. So I de-pinned the plugs they came with and the factory tweeter plugs, and swapped the factory wire pins (in the exact same slots) into to the new ones, if that makes sense. I'd be curious to hear if they're actually plug and play for your 09!

    @kozy I plan on installing the speakers the week b4 Christmas. I’ll let you know how the factory harness fits with those tweeters.
    Thanks for the note.

    @My2009taco Do you have a backup camera? On my 09 it was in the mirror and I moved it to the head unit. Along with putting it a temp/compass mirror from Bob's mirrors.

    @Tiedie yes my backup camera is in the mirror. I plan on playing with the output and trying to get it to the headunit. Hopefully the resolution on the touchscreen will make it a bit more usefull. The JVC i’m considering also has an input/support for a front cam - which I don’t have yet but i’ll think about.

    Since my door 6x9's decided to quit working I'm getting ready to do the same thing. I am going with a DVD receiver with apple car play. I'm old so I still have a CD collection. LOL I like the Pioneer AVH-2500 NEX. Wish it had the extra volt of output to amps that the Kenwood has...really like the older Kenwood Excelon DDX-6903s, but they are a few years old and hard to find. (Call me crazy but I still dig a volume knob LOL).

    @VaOldSchool the volume knob control is definitely a plus - easier than the push button vol controls. Some of the reviews of the jvc also called that out as lacking. I have to admit to a large cd collection as well - but I’m sure I’d trash those disks carrying them around in my truck..

    @kozy
    The ds18 tweeters were NOT plug and play on my 09 - but repinning the connectors was easy. Highly recommend using crutchfield to build out your entire system. Dash bezel, wiring, connectors, metra speaker adapters and their readi-harness service were clutch in making the install go very well.
    Thanks for all the replies and posts in other audio threads - much appreciated.
