This may be a dumb question but I'll take a chance and say it out loud..

I am getting a 2500lbs camping trailer soon and am trying to get my 100k mile truck all set. It has the tow package, stock leaf springs, and Firestone airbags already but I am also planning on upgrading the shocks to Bilstein 5100's front and rear.

Is there any benefit to putting a beafier shock in the back for towing? Something like the 5160 or beyond? Or would that just make it too weird on a daily driver? Or not even necessary?

Nah. Not for that trailer. I've towed a 2500lb trailer (Chalet Arrowhead) all over the western 1/3 of the US a couple times with:
    '02 taco. Firestone airbags, and
    '16 taco with SUMOSPRINGS.
    You're set just fine l

5100’s are more than adequate and will be a great upgrade on your truck. No need in anything more for your application.

You may want to look into installing a larger aftermarket transmission cooler. It’s an easy install and gives extra peace of mind. I installed a Derale 13503 on mine.

5160’s have more cool factor. When the bars open you will be the man.
