Maybe we can rig our trucks like locomotives and add a compressor/valve/solenoid/hopper/hoses and a Raspberry Pi computer.. Wire to the traction control so when it senses wheel slip it spits a bit of grit in front or behind the wheels.

A lot of school buses that service mtn areas in our district with potentially icy roads are equipped with those rear wheel sanders like trains have, as well as the automatic chains too. But those would be impractical for a taco.

Desertsniper- what’s wrong with your winch?
If you don’t have one, sounds like an icy drive is a perfect excuse to get one too! :)

Did you get any TCS lights in 4Lo? I just did some experimenting this weekend and it looks like we have TRAC goodies on the Sports:

Checklist for SR, SR5, and Sports:

The checklist is slightly different for MT ORs (and Pros?), since they have A-TRAC and E locker.

BTW, I only got a whiff of clutch once. I think it is carbon fiber friction material? I had similar ones on my motorcycle. A friend laughed because he said the bike reminded him of burning CF from race boats. CF clutches wear freakishly well.

In 4lo my truck just seemed to shut off all the electronic BS. Didn’t hit the trac button but it would let me spin to my hearts content.

I've done the same in snow. What I was trying to do was simulate having a wheel off the ground. It was discussed a few pages back in that thread. 4Lo, TRAC on will let us crawl and not stop us if crossed up.

I'd like to try it some place on solid ground, but there is nothing near me that I can find. I have a camping trip planned for the middle of February. I will see if I can get some video then.

Just confirming. I was in 4Lo and 2nd gear. The TCS light came on and I rolled up the hill without the wheel pulling to the right.

Yeah they did, look at any ambulance or fire truck in any region that gets a chance of snow.

I burned my clutch trying to get up a steep hill in SF in heavy traffic. It fucking bummed me out. Sharp squeaking noise and smelled awful. Won't happen again.

Really wish Toyota had included the hill hold feature in the Off Road. "You should have gotten the Sport!" you say. Bah. Fuck the Sport.

Ha, it did make me ponder getting a winch but that's a buttload of other questions, hidden winch or a nice bumper setup, then the suspension should be upgraded to handle that weight. A winch would provide a bit of comfort and self-sufficiency though, do you have any opinions on brands? A buddy was saying that Pelfrybuilt were good winches and cheaper than big name brands like Warn... not sure if that's true.

I can see it now, you park at the bottom of your drive, get out and struggle up the icy path as you unspool your winch all the way to the top, and...
