Thanks everyone for the replies :drunk:
I'm hoping they will show up some time this weekend, especially based off of what everyone was saying here. Glad to know others had it happen but never got left with out replacement or insurance coverage.

Sounds like a lot of Fed-Ex workers drive Tacomas with free sliders.

I was a little upset that day and glanced over "usually", left my 140 dollar item out in the open when know there have been many package and mail thefts in our neighborhood and we left them with special instructions not to do so because of thefts.

Just so you know, telling a vendor to have FedEx do something doesn't work. We have no way to telling FedEx where to leave your package.

Then they should not let you have the option to give special instructions.

There are other uses for the special instructions. It's special instructions for our end of the process. For example, people request us to ship after certain dates or customize our products for them.

If you go create a shipping label, you won't be able to specific special instructions to FedEx or any other carrier that I'm aware of. They just smash the hell out of your package and throw it where ever they please. It's amazing they are even still in business. Pretty much all of them have crappy service but we all put up with it because there aren't many options.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
I was waiting on a motorcycle seat one time and was tracking it online when it all of a sudden said it had been delivered. I cried bullshit since I was sitting 10 feet from the door the whole time. I called UPS and they got a hold of the driver and made him turn around and deliver it. He was behind and marked it delivered and skipped my house. The SOB had his tail between his legs when he handed me the box. All I said to him was, "Just deliver the damn boxes like you're supposed to. It isn't complicated."

with fedex and ups, once you get a tracking number, you can call the customer service or go on their website and have your item held at their shipping warehouse for you to pick up, works a lot better for big or expensive items, they tend to get handled less.

When we were first starting out, we used to drop our shipments off at that local sorting facility. It helped keep one layer of handling out of the equation. Now we just have to many shipments to do that.

It happens, probably got put on the wrong truck. If they put a trace on it they'll find it.

FedEx delivery drivers are normally independent contractors that can vary pretty wildly in quality. Every UPS driver you see is an employee of UPS and normally is more consistent than FedEx. They hold those guys accountable down to the minute each day and it's a really well paying job.

@jowybyo consider setting up an account with a third party logistics company to send sliders via LTL freight. Normally a good 3PL can get you a 150 lb shipment for around $85-$125 depending on whether it goes residential or to a business. Next day service on most shipments within 600 miles of origin too

Yea, that's what we do now. The main downside is that it's too expensive to deliver to a customer's door via LTL. Not only is there a residential fee, but also a lift gate fee. To keep the freight prices reasonable, we ship to the closest terminal and ask customers to pick up their sliders there.

Normally if the customer is there to help unload you can get around the liftgate fee. Not much you can do on the residential though. Picking up at the terminal is good for the customer too since most people aren't home during the day to accept delivery.

Don't be afraid to shop around either. If you are in MD you can look at A Duie Pyle or Southeastern Freight for regional shipments that can be cheaper than a YRC/XPO/FedEx Freight national type carrier.

We rotate through about 13 different carriers. Depends on the cost and the distance of the closest terminal to the customer.

I'm a UPSer. Your package was probably misloaded or damaged.

Pfft, eff that, the guy marked it delivered - if a package is going to "go missing" that would likely be part of the scenario. Guy is tired, wants go home, his shift is over - whoops there is this package I marked delivered. Hmm do I back-track however far on my route and actually deliver it, or throw it in a ditch? or bring it home with me? Once that package is marked delivered, and it isn't, bets are off.

Considering the amount of packages I get through various online vendors I wouldn't get in the habit of antagonizing someone who was going to be bringing future packages to my door. People need to stop being so damn impatient, services like Amazon Prime are spoiling people too much.

For fuck sake, the USPS not so long ago was going to stop doing Saturday delivery. Now these fuckers are bringing you packages on Sundays when UPS and Fedex are closed.
