    Hello,

I just bought a used 1999 4x4 automatic 4cyl Tacoma and it came with 225's which seem a bit small. I've seen the calculator and how that affects the speed, but I was wondering more about acceleration since this is an automatic 4cyl. Will 265's slow me down considerably? Or is there some middle ground. I already have to buy one tire so wondering if I should do all four wider. I will mostly be driving on pavement, but potentially a little bit of dirt roads in my future FYI.

I have a 95 Tacoma 4cyl with 3.58 gears and I have 31" tires on right now. It is doable and gets along fine, since you're auto I'd imagine it would have a bigger effect. What gears do you have?

    I believe 4.10. Stock ratio.

Should I just stick with 225's if I don't want to regear?

If you are in fact at 4.10 ratio then 31s are more than fine, in most cases they are stock at that ratio. If you have my ratio or one lower than 4.10 then I would suggest against upsizing with an auto (it'll be too slow and have trouble accelerating)

I looked at the door and stock was 225's with 4.10 ratio. I'm merely looking to go to 265's at most

265/75/R15 is 31" and I believe it should be fine, 4.10 was the stock ratio for most of the 4cyl trucks and many of those came with 31s
