I think its funny how difficult some of you make purchasing a vehicle. I you really have to do all these things to get a good deal, you may want to look for another dealership. You are abviously not at the right dealership.

$850 is what I paid In Texas we have a department that is pretty good at protecting consumers...they started at $3000.

When they did that whole technology BS....I told them I would be happier with a 2015.....they countered, I said nah, they said well $1500 is bottom Dollar, I said I did not want the truck anymore because they scared me....we settled at $850

Car dealers need to get regulated like funeral homes are (at least in Missouri). I just sat thru a recap of my grandfathers pre-arranged and pre-purchased funeral package after he passed. The funeral director / sales guy working for the funeral home told us that, by law, they had to review everything that my grandfather had selected in his funeral arrangement plan and all their available products, packages, etc had to show a price. It was all on computer with a big TV on the wall for us to see. Each step, each option showed the cost. And at the end they pulled up the tab to review before signing off. No hiding anything, no games, just straight up... "This is everything you purchased and this is what we are charging you for it". Makes sense as funerals would be, and I'm sure have been, prime time for predatory sales tactics.

Unfortunately there are still car dealers who do this same thing... preying on the unwitting and uneducated buyer who is intimidated by the process and just want to get it over with. This is why CarMax came around and has been so successful. People don't want to deal with the back and forth BS that car dealers put you through. No dealer is perfect but the only ones that get my business are the ones that don't try to pull the wool over my eyes. As soon as I get a hint of it... I bail. I've been taken for a ride before and I know what to look for now. Never be afraid to say NO, LET ME THINK ABOUT IT or WALK OUT.

...^^^... I have bought maybe 20 Toyotas in my life (12 trucks, 2 - T4R's and a few sedans). Shopped at all the dealers in ATL and 90% of the time, it's the same old BS. I did have one guy who was my "no BS go to guy" ... but he moved.

I am always respectful of the dealership and I expect the same ... but it's also a jungle out there. :D

Good news for you is that law requires all happenings in the F&I office to be video recorded and kept on file for several years.

If you are certain you were not told about the extra warranty/price of it then I would get ahold of the finance manager and tell him that you want it taken off of the contract or else you will have your lawyer file a subpoena for the video tape and sue them for the cost of the warranty & court fees.

Laws vary state to state good luck with that after you signed the arbitration argeement paying all legal costs and everything is worded in favor for the dealership .

Regardless of whether the laws in his area require video taping in f&i, Id be hard pressed to believe that a new Toyota Dealership wouldn't be taping their f&i transactions. Every New dealer I have worked for/purchased from has had them recorded.

And the commission the finance manager has to gain from said sale is not worth the hassle if the dealer believes he will be filing a suit. They will resist at first, yes. But if he continues to pursue the point that he was sold the warranty under false pretenses and does choose to sue, the dealer will back down.
Speaking from experience, the finance manager and the dealer as a whole does not have an interest in fighting court battles over such small fish. Its in their best interest to return the warranty and avoid the court fees, possible suit loss, and bad publicity in the eyes of future customers.

If he is insistent, and the video doesn't prove him wrong, they will fold.

Just depends on if he is willing to put in the work to achieve his goal of getting it refunded.

I went today and they signed off the warranty, it went well.

    They weren't apologetic about it.

I just called to have mine removed and faxed them as the dealership where I got mine is about 5 hours away from me. Should be getting around 2800 back when I was talking to the guy he was still trying to sell me the on it. I believe mine is getting taken off of the principle. Could be wrong but I believe that’s what he said.

I considered canceling it a few weeks after the purchase because I got a lot of third-party warranty offers afterwards. I looked into the one AAA was offering and it was more expensive than the Toyota Platinum plan. The others were from companies I'd never heard of, so I stuck with this one.

No, not at all. He used the much heralded “make it up as you go along” method to determine that.

...^^^... On occasion, especially in the past, 2 dealers would show me their cost sheet.

The problem I have today is dealers don't want to sell the "Toyota Corporate Platinum Warranty". They insist on selling you either the **Dealership Extended Warranty or the **Toyota Regional Extended Warranty ... more profit and spiffs apparently in the those two.

I NEVER buy those two **warranties.

I went in to my dealership and requested to cancel the extended warranty - no hassle and was taken care of immediately to my surprise. It did however take almost 2 weeks for the $2500 to come off.
