A couple months back, I installed the UpTop Overland Kilo roof rack on my truck. Overall, very pleased with it: good price, good quality, plenty sufficient load-bearing specs (850 lbs static, 250 lbs dynamic), and nice powder coating.

The install was hindered only by not having access to instructions from UpTop. They sent a QR code that went to a dead link, but I was able to sort it out with a set of install instructions from a very good user install article on Trail Tacoma's website, as well as UpTop's installation overview video for reference. The article was FAR more thorough, including torque specs. (...though I'm not sure where they got them from--perhaps previous editions of UpTop's install guidance for their earlier model racks?)

A couple notes on the included hardware:
    • I had two of the small black hex-head bolts for attaching the cross bars strip out at the hex head during install. Fortunately, there were plenty of extras included, so no worries there.
    • Two of the washers that are used on the mounting feet/spacers bent before I reached 90 in-lbs. They still held, but didn’t seem very robust.
    • Everything was bagged in zip bags that were numbered to match the (not included) instructions. Fortunately, the previously mentioned install article referenced them closely enough to be able to sort out which was which.
Customer support responded within one business day to a couple of my emails before and after purchase.

The only significant item I have is that the rack just touches the top of the roof at the front of both side rails (see pics). Not so much it's creasing anything, but I'm definitely not putting a load on it until I fix it lest it rub through the paint or make a crease/dent. When asked about it, Corey at UpTop said the spacing along the entire side should be 1/4" from the rooftop. I'm not sure if the fact that the washers bent before reaching torque (see second bullet, above) indicates I torqued down too much (I was shooting for 90 in-lbs, per the Trail Tacoma article), or what. I'm a little leery to remove those bolts and loosen the adjacent ones so I can get washers put in, as that might jack up the waterproof seal I made with (loads) of RTV at each bolt hole when mounting the feet.

Anyone else had this issue with their roof rack? If so, any better ideas on solving it than removing the bolts and inserting some spacer screws?
