Oh? I might hit you up for something then. Those side pieces that are on the TRUSS would make it a little short for my taste. So I would probably space out the bars and custom make one to go across them.

On that note, @upTOPoverland is the flagship truck the full height rack?

Additionally, if I were to space them out to sit in the diamondback more evenly, would that still allow for the EX to be bolted up correctly?

Ok, so now I'm getting some crazy ideas... I might have to make a mock version out of wood to see if I can do 4 bars instead of the standard 3....
This way I can mount things to each set of two, and not have to unbolt anything to open up the cover... But a project for another day. In the meantime, ideas ideas ideas.

Have you considered two modifications to your plan?

    1. Order a custom rack without the flaps. (so the rack sits flat on the cover).
    2. Front Runner rails. (the flat rack can then mount to the Front Runner Rails).

The rail channels shown bolt to the Diamonback. The legs of the rack bolt to the groove in the rail channel.

What is the leg spacing you guys are working with? I'll have to measure out and see if I have the overall length to do that.
If you could also get me the overall length of the long bed EX as well spacing from one end to the other of the load bars.

    1) Yes, I have. Only problem is that they are running pretty much at capacity so I don't believe they will have time for custom stuff until a bit later. Drew also pointed out the Retrax version, so that will work.
    2) Front Runner rails are too short for my liking. As clean and simple as they are, it would block my rear window a bit, which I am not entirely fond of.

I added a photo. What I meant to suggest was the Front Runner channel rail that runs down the length of the truck, and allows you to add a rack of your choice.

Yeah, that makes sense. The only question I have for that is, does anybody make a full height rack that fits in the Front Runner channels?

So, when I looked at your preferred rack vendor, it occurred to me that with the side plates gone, and a flat bottom, all that would be required was a drilled hole in the bottom of the rack plate that normally sits on the plastic bed rail covers.

I will look around and see.

By the way, your idea of four rails (two per half of the Diamonback) would theoretically allow you to open either half.

Right, the Retrax version already has holes pre-drilled through the bottom to attach to a Retrax cover. I would use those to drill holes through the diamondback cover and bolt it directly on there.

Correct, the only concern would be that, upon opening the cover, would the two center crossmembers collide with each other. I would have to mock something up for that to make sure.

If it does work, I think the best bet would be to get the TRUSS AFS RETRAX version.

So, this is the 18" KBvoodoo available with optional tonneau brackets. LINK

Also included some photos of the KBvoodo brackets.

They also have a 22" version.

didn't his rack break on some trail? he had to ratchet strap the tent down so he could get it home?

So, I suggested two different ideas.

First was the Front Runner channel rails, which would require drilling and bolting those rails. The beauty here is that these channel rails provide endless mount points for anything including a rack. The rack does not need new holes in the diamondback.

The legs of the rack mount to the channel , and therefore can be moved along the channel without requiring custom holes.

The second suggestion was simply to look at KBvoodoo who has a unique bracket for use with Tonneaus like the Diamonback.

Yup, I did see that one a while back. I only don't like it because I can't open my cover while their rack is attached.
Did it? But if it was the rack and not the diamondback, I think the TRUSS is stronger, so it should be ok.
Yes, agreed, those two ideas would work, depending on who is looking at them. Front Runner rails would be too short imo, for my purposes. And KBVoodoo doesn't allow it to open while the rack is on there.
