I have a 2014 TRD O/R with the Magnusson S/C. Considering going to the 2.85 pulley, which seems to have generally very positive reviews from those who have installed the 2.85 pulley. I am seeing some varying opinions on the need to swap out the fuel pump. For those who are in support of doing so as a precaution against insufficient fuel delivery under certain conditions, what fuel pump would you recommend be used ( and ballpark on cost of the pump).

    URD sells kits:

I paid a few extra dollars for the Deatschwerks 255 as the Walbro 255 is said to be noisy. 255 will be plenty for the 2.85. I haven’t installed mine yet, but am prepping for the 2.7 pulley.

Note that the secondary fuel filter isn’t necessary. It is an added filter to the system, not like you are upgrading an existing filter.

I appreciate the info, links and photos. Sounds like the Deatschwerks is the best way to go. I will be ordering the pulley and pump kit soon.
    Thanks!

No, it’s the main filter after the upgrading. The OEM pump includes two filter too.

Am I missing something? I haven’t completed the upgraded pump install yet, but it appears no OEM filters are removed and this one is added. @12TRDTacoma

The pump is housed inside the filter:

Pump suck up through the strainer/filter and pumps fuel through this = the filter media.

This part is not there after the upgrade, the external aftermarket filter replaces this filter.

What's the problem? There is one filter installed in place after installing an aftermarket pump. Whether or not you want to add an external secondary filter after the pump is purely up to you, but on mine I just used a strainer made by Bosch. No external filter.

I missed that reading over the instructions I guess, it was a while ago. I’ll have to revisit them. Thanks for the clarification.

I have received Deatschwerks 255 lph fuel pump and the URD 2.85 pulley. In looking at other forums, it looks like some guys drop the tank to install the fuel pump and some pull the truck bed. At least one person noted that if you have a double cab, dropping the tank is the best way to go as most of the tank is under the cab. Any thoughts on the best approach?

Drop the tank You won't be able to access the pump at all with a double cab short box. I found out the hard way because the info i read did not make it clear.

Thanks for the input TodayWasTheDay. Saves trying an approach that would not work.

The 2.85 URD pulley and D/W 255 fuel pump have been installed. I had the local shop that installed the S/C do the work. Their prices are reasonable and they do good work. The truck pulls strong and then keeps pulling. Power comes on early and then continues throughout the powerband. Looking forward to trying it out pulling my 23 foot travel trailer.

Anyone with a lot of miles running the 2.85 pulley with stock fuel pump?

I don't want any detonation but also don't want to replace the pump if it's not necessary.

I’ve got about 35-40k on my supercharger setup with the stock pump, but the 255 D/W pump is going in this weekend.

If you gotta ask, you should replace the pump.

The stock pump is not strong enough to supply the amount of fuel volume the supercharger demands, let alone when you start modding the blower. Go DW, AEM, or Walbro.

I'm just wondering... If it's not needed then why replace it. But if it's needed, why would I not replace it.

It's one of those things where some people don't replace the pump and the fueling is fine for the 2.85... If it wasn't, I assume the motor would've blown up. So is there actually enough fuel with stock pump and 2.85? That's what I'm asking. But again, I guess it's a lot easier to say it's better safe than sorry though

I remember calling URD and Steve told me to get the pump upgrade before I put the 2.825” stealth pulley on. So that’s what I did. I wager the stock pump would do fine supplying the engine with that pulley, however like you say, a lot better to be safe than sorry.

For those curious about any problems with the 2.825” pulley, I put a good 70000 miles on with that pulley and the pump upgrade. I used to get check engine lights now and then for O2 sensor, MAF, and ECU performance, they scared the living f*** out of me when I first saw them, but the truck ran fine and they always went away. I found that they would come and go when it was really humid out. Whatever that means. Or maybe it was a coincidence.

The fuel pump upgrade (walbro 255) has worked fine lately for a mod I just did... a 2.0” pulley that I made myself. I am at about 13psi now; more if it’s cold out. Although with that mod, lots of other supporting mods were done - UCON-EMS, 7th injector, and water/methanol injection. In reading the efficiency chart for the supercharger, I’m actually running in a spot that’s not far off maximum efficiency. It actually looks to me like the stock 3.0” pulley configuration is less efficient than the 2.0” based on the chart.
