So im getting ready to purchase a stage 2 clutch from urd now that mine has started to show signs of crapping out on me. I know a lot of people have had success with the TOB replacement kit URD offers that includes the steel sleeve and supposedly fixes the TOB chatter. I've also seen a few posts that this didnt fix the problem and wondered if it was worth my time or just throw the oem toyota tob in and call it a day. any advice on this? Another issues seems to be the spring in the clutch master cylinder? the only audible noise i get is from time to time while pushing the clutch pedal in i hear a noticeable squeak. its not constant though and tends to go away. other than that if i try to roll a stop sign in 2nd ill get a little chatter which i assume to be the TOB possibly? It sounds like the stage 2 clutch will give me a better clutch feel just trying to make sure i dont need other parts before i dig into this thing.

Couple of things. A lot of folks are getting high mileage out of the OEM clutch. Depends on what you are trying to do but I would do the OEM again as it is a very good clutch.

The bearing in the kit has an oversized center bore to be able to fit over the transmission quill. The supplier is using an OEM bearing and a lathe to do this. I purchased directly from the manufacture, PD&M in Colo. and received a bearing that had too much of a sloppy fit and returned it for a replacement. So check the fit. You will also be limited to using their special bearing in the future unless you were to remove the sleeve.

The sleeve that comes with the kit uses 3 or 4 set screws at the base to secure it to the the quill. The fasteners I had were pointed on the end and I was afraid they could be tightened a bit too much and initiate a stress crack down the road because the quill is unbelievably thin aluminum. There is a pic or two on line of the quill breaking off. Just be aware of this and be careful.

Thanks for the heads up! I think I might just stick with the oem TOB. I guess I wont know until i get in there but the sleeve is mainly a fix in the event that the quill is already grooved due to the soft aluminum correct?

The quill on mine was all scored up. The TSB says its normal to see wear on the quill, sure, NOT. Was not my intent at all to scare you away from it I just thought you should know a few particulars. In fact I still advocate the kit and am about to do it again on another 6 speed.
