Anyone tried this product out? I would really enjoy my manual truck more with a decreased shifter throw.

These trucks already have a fairly decent throw. Wonder how this affects the shift feel

I had one on my 2nd gen Xrunner back in the day and it made a pretty good improvement in the throw. easy to install to

I have the kit in my 2nd gen 4 cyl and I love the difference it made!

The throw between each gear is reduced a lot and it is making shifting easier and faster so less loss of power when shifting.

But after a few months I would like to have it shorter again! :D

i read a short review somewhere that said it was good like mentioned above, but that occasionally it was a little difficult to get into reverse. iirc it was a few mentions here and there about that but nothing consistent. looked to be reviews from 2015, so i'm wondering if there's anything like this currently, like in cold weather or something.

anyone with a 2016/7 have one currently installed?

I have a 7545 ordered and being built 11/17, good to know a shift kit is available. I'll definitely be in for this immediately upon delivery.

I'm coming into this truck from a 350z so the throw seems a mile long. I think I'll be ordering this thing. :)
Well I ordered one today for my 17 sport so I'll be sure to post pics and a review once I get it installed.

Short compared to the old fords and the ranger I'm used to driving.

I actually like the stock throw. I've had short shift kits on sports cars but different animal. I like the stock shift feels like a truck and is pretty easy and smoooooth. If it ain't broke....

I don't think so... Personnally I do smoother shift since I have mine, but I know I am not the best to drive manual since it is my first manual vehicle, I learn everyday.

About the reverse, like I said I do not own a 3rd gen but I don't feel like it is harder to get in reverse than before... For cold weather, it is coming soon so I'll know soon lol

I've heard some say it will wear out something in the shifter. Been awhile so forget what exactly, but it scared me enough to wait and see how it went with you guys. I am thinking I want one still. I have heard that they can actually make the shifting smother, although I think that was from their Web site

To me, this seems like a solution to a non-existent problem, but to each his own. Look forward to seeing some installs/ reviews.

You wouldn't believe how much misinformation there actually is out there about shifters...

A lot of people don't realize there are 2 measurements you are looking at when people talk about a "short" shifter.
-Above the fulcrum point, you're basically just making the knob taller or shorter without affecting the distance between gates.
-Below the fulcrum point, you're actually lengthening the "rod" to make the distance between gates shorter- this is where a larger difference is made, and this is also where you might run into issues like being tough to shift when cold, etc.

This URD unit looks like it's doing it the right way and increasing length below the fulcrum. A lot of people basically just hit the top of their shifter rod with a hacksaw and then say "short shifter!" when the difference between gates is totally unchanged.

ALSO!!! A big thing for shift "feel" that many people ignore is the weight of the knob. A heavy knob makes for "smoother" shifts and a more positive "drops in to gear" type of feeling, a light weight knob makes for "notchy" shifts that some prefer as more "precise" because there is less of a "momentum" feeling to the shifter.

Personally I dig the longer, lighter shifter.

If its anything like this one: http://www.gadgetonline.com/shifter.pdf Id be hesitant to have the shift lever be in multiple pieces. I agree with the design, but if there was a factory TRD option (unlikely unless someone can confirm similar lever design to the previous taco or FJ, Id take it instead as it replaces the whole lever.

I totally hear you on the reasoning, given the last time I installed a short shifter on a different make of vehicle I had issues with an aftermarket "adjustable" 2 piece unit that was REALLY sketchy. However, they tell you to use red loctite AND stake the set screw in... that's definitely not going anywhere.

It's a moot point for me because my Taco is automatic.

The directions are so far from what actually needs to happen for the 2016/2017. I'll be contacting urd and finding out how to actually install this thing. The gaining access part is totally different and once you do gain access you can't get to the front 2 bolts on the shifter assembly. I'm really doubting the ability to get that spacer and the new Allen bolts installed either without cutting out some of the metal around the shifter.
