Good idea. I will take some measurements, but I think cutting off 1" will work perfectly. I have a manual, so no problems with the O2 sensors for me. Kinda interesting how it came with block off plugs for the O2 sensors. I guess that's for those that want to disconnect them and don't care if your check engine light is on.

Make sure you let Gadget know about that hanger issue.

whenever someone gets a chance, i would love to hear any feedback on this U spec kit regarding low and mid-range performance... any changes from stock in any form. I'm just curious. i have the OV tune but I'm always looking for driveability improvements however i can get them, which is all about everything up to 3500rpm.

I think you are going to see most of the gains above 3500 with Spec U added to the tune. We wont know for sure until Matt builds a tune for the pipe. Trying to get on OVTune's Dyno in Aug to get that done. I have both now but because of the line/O2 sensor issue don't have any miles on it yet.

I'm certain the vast majority of gains will be up top... that's why I'm asking about driveability stuff below 3500rpm. even if there's subtle improvements I'm interested. it's all about driveability for me, and i will rarely rev past 4k, almost never.

Can I ask why you rarely rev past 4K? This engine is designed to rev past 4K and makes most of its power up there. I know you don't have big altitude changes in TX. Out here you would be crawling up the passes if you stayed below 4K.

I'm having the same issue as Glenn_R. I just sent URD an email. I'm so glad Glenn_R posted this issue, otherwise I probably would have taken everything off first. I just fit checked the right side, saw the issue and returned it to stock.

Glenn_R, you the man!! You saved me time. THANKS!!...

That's why most exhaust manufacturers like URD that make products that delete the cats states its for off road use only, but it's still considered tampering according to that letter. Some crazy restrictions...

I can tell you it provided driveability improvements for me over other pipes. The biggest effect I saw from switching to the Spec U has been how the truck handles low rpm situations in parking lots. I notice less lugging, and if it is going to lug you have to get really low in rpms like 1000 or fewer and then maybe it will lug if youre in 2nd gear. I feel it was a pretty significant improvement there, and also Ive noticed more torque available when trying to accelerate in a higher gear.

Not earth shattering, but basically before the spec U if I wanted to accelerate I had to downshift. Like every. single. time. Now, at least I can stay in gear and slowly get up to speed. I feel you that improving the low end is a priority, but part of the problem here is that the motor on the taco is definitely designed to be revved out and driven like a race truck, it doesnt give anybody too many extra points for keeping the rpms low seeing as you get robbed blind of all your power down low and dont even really get much more MPGs for doing it, but to each their own though. According to Gadget, this is where the equal length Y pipe sections come in, they balance the motor better as far as backpressures across both cylinder banks are concerned, so that the motor runs smoother at low rpms and during stressful situations, as well as producing more torque.

If you dont want to be deafened by the motor revving out and thats the problem at the moment then Id definitely recommend the Spec U, it quieted down the ride quite a bit from my previous exhaust setup

You got it brotha, anytime! It is steep, but you can always sell your current exhaust either to someone who got in an accident or for scrap metal which would get you something for that

I haven't read through this entire thread but looking for input from others who have towed with this exhaust. My truck will sit at 3200-4000rpm when towing my travel trailer and worry this exhaust would be obnoxious. Would this be the case, bad drone when towing?

Nope! The drone on this exhaust is comparable to stock, it just roars a little louder at high rpm. I'm at 1200 miles on mine now and it's gotten a bit louder than when I put it on but still nowhere near as loud as my y pipe and turn down was before. As far as towing is concerned I can confidently say you're better off towing with this pipe than without it due to the increased power and smoother engine operation. If you often find yourself towing investing in some premium engine oil would help low rpm operation as well at the cost of whatever "engine braking" this thing may or may not have had initially lol

I appreciate the info, I wasn't aware of actually performance gains when going to this exhaust and assumed it was for some extra noise only, I guess it makes sense you'd see gains as it replaces the y-pipe along with the small restrictive exhaust piping.
